Here is my situation I recently got laid off from my job (public accounting), but I think this is a blessing in disguise as I now have time to get my CPA. So i will be taking the CPA exam while not working.

I have so many questions and I apologize if they have been asked many times before. I’m just so frustrated with how to schedule taking it and timing and all that stuff.

I plan on taking a section in mid April (depending on the answers to my questions), but i fail it should I retake it right after? But I can only take a section in a window right? But at the same time I dont want to just pick something else up if i failed a part. Plus it takes 5 weeks to get back your results, This is making me head explode. Do you think i should take 2 sections in a window? Which ones?

All responses are very much appreciated.

“But I can only take a section in a window right? “

No, you can take as many sections per window as you please, from 1 to all 4. However, if you take XXX section in April and fail it (knock on wood), you will not be able to retake the same XXX section during April-May window. You will have to get a new NTS for the next window for the failed section.

    I hope it makes sense.

I think you should pick an exam and study for it until you pass. Then you can be clear on how to tackle the others because your 18 month clock will start. This is what I did. Just jump right in and start studying one of them today.

    Florida:
AUD: 73, 81! Thank you Lord!
BEC: 73, 77! Thank you Lord! and WTB
REG: 71, 82! Thank you Lord! and A71
FAR: 72, 78! Thank you God and my Mommy in Heaven!

First off, chill out. You will do just fine.

    1) Start studying for the next section after taking a section. I suggest starting with FAR, and get the beast out of the way. I'm currently regretting taking it last now.

    2) You can take more than one section in a window, but you can only take that section 1 time each window. In other words, you cannot take FAR twice in the 2nd window, but you can take all 4 sections in one window.

    3) Results are much faster these days. I took REG on 2/27/14, and it should be with the scores released this Friday, 3/7/14. NASBA states will post the scores released on Friday, but Texas will post by Tuesday 3/11/14.

4)If you are jobless, I would suggest taking 2 sections a window. Treat the exam like a job, and get it done.

You also need to look into Jeff book on how to Survive the CPA Exam. That should anwer any other questions you have.

    CPA EXAM: DONE!!!!
    Ethics Course: Passed
    Application Mailed: 3/16/15
    Professional Conduct Exam: 97
    Certification Date: 4/2/15!!!

Oh, by the way – in some states you can receive a CPA review course as a part of your unemployment compensation. Do not quote me on this, thou – it’s been a while since I looked at it; and there is no such option in my state

Note there are no exams on March, June, September, December. and here are what I have done.

I used to take 2 sections each quarter.

    early April: FAR (fail)

    end of May: AUD (pass)

    early July: BEC (pass)

    end of August: FAR (fail)

    early October: FAR (pass)

    end of February: REG (fail)

    early May: REG (pass)

I studied with Becker DVD lectures, book, questions along with Ninja notes. In my opinion, if you study hard, then you should be good with becker. But if you want to make your life easier, it is worthwhile using Ninja note 😉

    Currently:
    CPA - Class of 2013
    ALMI (Associate, Life Management Institute)
CISA - Passed in 2011, Certified in 2014

    In Progress:
ASA (Associate of Society of Actuaries) - EXAM P (O), EXAM FM (O), EXAM MFE (X), EXAM MLC (X), EXAM C (X)

Since you aren't working, you should be able to take 2 sections in one window.

This may not work for everyone, but what I did was to study for FAR, took it, and then study for AUD while waiting on my score. This way I didn't waste 3 or 4 weeks waiting on scores. If I failed FAR, I went ahead and sat for AUD, and would have went right back to FAR then before moving on.

    I hope that makes sense.

No you won't likely have to wait 5 weeks for results. Use the search function on this website for score release. For example people who test from 2/15-2/28 will in some cases get their results on 3/7.

Second, go ahead and start studying for the next section as soon as you finish an exam. No sense wasting time just sitting around waiting. If you fail a section, common wisdom is to study from scratch for a retake as if you've never seen it before, it's not like you get a 71 and only have to get 4 more points, you need 75 more points.

And I agree with the above advice, if studying is the only obligation you have, you should be able to knock out 2 sections in a testing window.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.
