So, I have been out of college for 5 years now and, honestly, I did lackluster in college because I was young and goofy. However, I have since been trying to reedmen myself and have decided to take the CPA. I am using Wiley and starting with FAR since I have spent the last 5 years as a financial accountant.

My question is related to studying. I have come up with a plan for study and I wonder what your thoughts are on this.

For the weekdays I would study 2 hours in the morning, 1 hours over lunch and 2 hours in the evening which totals 5 study time for that days topic.

For Saturday, I would follow the same routine but also include 1-1.5 hours to review everything I have studied that week. Which would add up to 6-6.5 hours for Saturday.

Then on Sunday, again, same routine as the week but would also include a comprehensive review of everything I have studied from day one using the flash cards and Test Bank. I cannot put an decent time on this so I won’t.

Does this make sense as a possible study schedule?

Additional info: I do have a full time job but I don’t have a busy season since I work for an manufacturing company. I don’t have any kids, just a dog. And my family lives 600 miles away so don’t have to worry about them dropping by.

It was almost like i was reading about myself. Had a little too much fun in college. Five years later its finally time to do what i should have done 5 years ago. I don't have a very stressful job and up until April i'll only have a dog. (boy due April 13th)

5 hours a day is going to be brutal and in my opinion unsustainable and unnecessary depending on how long you plan to study. Most people say you need about 120 hours of review for FAR and with your schedule you'd be ready to take it in 3-4 weeks which seems a little aggressive, but more power to you if you can get it done.

Just for comparison: I studied about 2.5 hours a day over the course of 7 weeks. Last two weeks i definitely put in a little more. FYI There are 45 hours worth of lectures for FAR in CPAExcel an 1892 MCQ in the FAR course itself (excluding the TestBank), and 1000+ pages in the book. I tried to budget my review based on the number of MCQ & Pages of text to review. So i watched the 45 hours of lectures then spent about 48 hours (1892MCQ + 1000pgs =2892/60 = 48hrs) reviewing the text and MCQ in the course. Then i spent the remaining time doing questions out of the testbank.

I plan to take it April 1st. For me, to be honest, I need to read over the material a few times to really understand the material. It takes time for me to really get the info but once I do, I normally can retain it. I understand that I may be putting too much time into this one but it is my first exam of any kind in 5 years and I am a slow learner.

Do you really think it is too much? From what I have been reading on the forum, I feel like that amount of time is necessary.

Everybody is different, but 5 hours a day for three months seems like a lot. I remember the last two days before my exam i felt so burnt out that i barely did anything. Honestly i would see if you could schedule it for the end of Feb. Study for 4 or 5 weeks and see how you feel. Then reschedule to the first of April if necessary.

I am using CPAExcel and am lucky to get 2 hours in a day working full time with an 18 month old.
