So..I’ve finally passed the CPA Exam – Yay!

    n

I currently need 22 credits to hit my 150 credit hours. Anyone have any easy recommendations for doing so? The best I’ve found online is the LSU Distance Learning at about $275 bucks a class + books per 3 credits.n

wow that seems really expensive. Why don't you just take classes at community college? It is much cheaper. A 3 unit class at the CC near me costs $85. Why would you take these classes from a university, just wondering?n

haha as far as being able to do the classes with your work schedule…since you have passed the cpa exam, these should be beyond cakewalk for you.n

I took 4 CC classes over the summer to satisfy the CPA exam requirements in CO. I paid around $140/credit hour for online classes. It would have been around $100/credit hour for on campus classes, all this with some discount from the state of CO and not including the books. I ended up renting the books from an online place. Sounds like the LSU deal is a good one.
nfinanceguy, where do you find a class for $28/credit hour? I want to move there! LOLn

wow I am shocked at how much you guys have to pay. I am in CA. haha it wasn't until 6 months or so ago that CC costs were only $20/unit, and so a 3 unit class cost $60, but now they raised it and it costs $85 for a 3 unit class. haha so many people complained about the raising of price. Geez I better hurry up and finish up my 12 units before CA gets its reality check and has to do something about its budget deficit.n

That's amazing. I would not have guess CA!! Maybe they're trying to compensate for the high cost of living otherwise… although not all of CA is the same, of course. Yeah, you should definitely take advantage of that awesome deal.n

I did a 3 hour on-line class through my local community college. It was $450 for the class, but well worth it if you have already gotten an “official” transcript from the college you graduated from. If you're still in school, you can take the CLEP test to get hours credit.n

    OP,

    n

If your state requires X many hours of the 150 to consist of upper division accounting courses and your undergrad degree did not provide you those hours, than LSU is going to be your best bet. IMOO, LSU offers the cheapest upper division hours through correspondence/web that I could find after scouring the internet.

    n

I am currently taking 2 (completed 1) upper division accounting courses through LSU and besides the fact that I am taking 3 upper division accounting courses; the whole process has been pretty painless. All you have to do is your reading/homework, which is tedious but doable, and then take the proctored midterm/final at your local CC.

    n

Check with your state board to determine the composition of the 150 hour requirement…if you don’t need any upper division accounting courses than stick with a local CC. Otherwise, sign up for LSU and get ‘er done.n

Wow, that is just crazy! $450 for one class just blows my mind! I guess I am just really lucky at the prices here in CA.

    n

BTW, for your books, check out Abebooks.com. You will probably find the lowest prices out there. Most of the time it will be international edition, but the only difference is it is softcover and not hardcover. On average, after shipping, you will save over 50% on your books.n
