How are you studying for simulations?

I am having issues with the simulations. Anyone have any tips on working through these on an exam or tools that are helpful in working simulations? I understand how to operate the simulations and the multiple choice material but applying it in a simulation is killing me. I have been scoring well above an 80 according to the graph that nasba sends on the multiple choice but the simulation is so low it is bringing me down. Please help.

I have never practice SIMS other than going through them just to understand the format and practice searching for the answers to research questions. The SIMS are all about testing if you truly understand a concept so for me, my time is better well spent just reading and studying the info more than practicing the SIMS. You're unlikely to get a SIM that asks the same question as a practice SIM anyway.

I studied SIMS when I was going through REG and it didn't help me too much. I didn't even look at them going through AUD and BEC and I did fine. It's more important to understand the material so you can apply them on the SIMS when the time comes because you never know what they're going to ask

    REG - 80 (2/28/13)
    AUD - 68 (5/24/13), 84 (7/11/13)
    BEC - 83 (8/29/13)
    FAR - 70 (12/04/13) 80 (2/10/14)

I made the mistake of listening to people who said not to study simulations and to only worry about the MCQ. That resulted in me failing FAR even though I got stronger on the MCQ than most passing candidates. Especially for FAR…do not skip studying for the simulations. If you know the simulations on your test bank inside out just like you know the multiple choice, you should be prepared for your exam. Keep practicing them until you understand the journal entries and the concepts.

Sims are just another way of testing to see if you know the material. If you truly know the material and are getting good scores on MCQ's b/c you ACTUALLY know the material, I honestly think you should be be good for sims b/c sims can virtually test you on anything.

Not saying skip the sims, but do them at least once or at least skim through the solutions for each sim.

What he/she ^ said….and honestly, some REG simulations on the exam were insane….so practicing more SIMs at home wouldn't have helped me a bit….Fortunately, I knew enough to pass…..

    FAR: 81 (May 2013)
    BEC: 81 (July 2013)
    REG: 83 (August 2013)
    AUD: 82 (November 2013)
    California CPA since 1/30/14

I need advice on the audit Sims… I'm comparable on the mc but weaker on the Sims. I got about three Far Sims last time (JEs, variance analysis, etc.). Since audit is so conceptual, I'm not sure how to approach these. Most people say use the AL, but I can't on these types of questions.

    CPA (2017)

    REG:  75

    BEC:  76

    FAR:  77

    AUD: 78

    CMA (2019)

    P1: 380

    P2: 360

    AUD - 1st - 60 (12/12), 61 (2/13), 61 (8/13), 78! (11/15)
    REG - 55 (2/16) 69 (5/16) Retake(8/16)
    BEC - 71(5/16) Retake (9/16)
    FAR - (8/16)
