It sounds like you are English as a Second Language (ESL). As such Audit is going to be much more difficult for you because the entire exam is language based. A single word in the question will, completely, change what the correct answer is.

As such it is even more important for someone like you to understand the concepts and understand what the question is asking. That's my best advice is to make sure you know what the question is asking, why the correct answer is correct and why the incorrect answers are wrong. If you are, indeed, ESL it's going to be more challenging for you than a native English speaker so you're going to have to work harder at understanding the questions.

I heard a lot of people on this forum associating AUD pass-rate with being English language learner. Some even associate BEC's writing portion with being English language learner. English is my second language for me as well. Regardless of being English language learner, I took English writing courses with the natives (regular English class) and earned A in two courses. Passed BEC with 82 doing only MCQs after listening lectures only on selected topics (IT and Internal Control; which I thought were my weakest areas). As far as AUD is considered, I just practiced MCQ for two weeks and passed with 81.

I didn't see anything that tests your language skills hard. AUD is understanding the big picture and being a good test taker. For BEC writing part, note that, if you can write good in your first language, most likely you will be fine in your second language. It is about organization, flow and making sense out of it (and a little bit care on grammar). You don't need a lot of vocabulary in your head.

All is said only to say that “my experience tells me that any of the CPA section exams tests your language skill”.

    BEC: 82
    FAR: 82
    AUD: 81
REG: 72 oh...oh 87 used NINJA MCQ only on the retake

EktaSingh, you need to sit down and rewrite your notes over and over until you feel comfortable with the concept of each chapter. See your weaknesses on the score card and before studying them again, think why these areas are your weaknesses? Did you not understand and therefore sort of skipped them quickly, hoping they won't be tested heavily? That might be your real weakness, skipping things too quickly and thinking that you can pass this test as well as all others.

How many hours did you study for each of your previous attempts?

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

@AngleWatch- As far as AUD is concerned, you are absolutely right. And I completely agree with you. Sometimes, I feel real difficult to comprehend the question and say it aloud to understand and then answer.

On my first attempt, I was poor at concepts and didn't know what CPA exam is.

On my second attempt, NINJA helped me build concepts and I started to manage it well.

However, I do not feel this issue in other parts. BEC, with only Wiley I got 68 in my first attempt. Cost Accounting was the weakest area in that.

I am planning to give AUD again by end Jan 2015.

@howmany74- I reckon with you on rewriting my notes again and again.

I am weak in Audit procedures (Evidence) , assertions and FAR part in AUD exam esp Sims.

Both the time with God s grace I could find Resaearch. Both the time, FAR Sims were a fail.

If you have any suggestions, would be appreciated!

    Thank you

@mla- I get ample time to study. 6 hours a day approximately, sometimes more also.

    I studied for 2 months each time – 6 hours a day.

I edited your post above as you may not disclose the content of your exam. It's fine to say the SIMS were FAR based (and of course they are, after all FAR concepts are what is being audited) but no more specific than that.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Hey thanks for Editing. Apologies for writing so specific.

What in your opinion should be done then because I have not prepared FAR and have been giving AUD.

And I am not too familiar with US Accounting; my major was Marketing!

One very important point is that you can use the authoritative literature for all the SIMS, not just the research question. There were a few sims that I was not completely comfortable with and fortunately I was able to find direction in the AL. Also rewriting notes over and over as mentioned above really drove home the concepts for me. I took the ninja notes and copied them 10 pages per day for 30 days. I got through them three times. It brought me from a 71 to an 84.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

AUD was much easier than FAR imo, i dont think the 2 sections have much overlap to be honest. there was 1 far looking sim on my aud exam which i assumed was pretest so i just guessed and filled up with zeroes

AUD is tough. Read carefully and binge on MPCs. It's the only way to get through it… and memorize the audit reports as well. 🙂

    FAR- 82
    REG- 93
    AUD- 89
    BEC- 88

You are smarter, more focused, and more brilliant than you give yourself credit for. Believe in yourself and truly know in your heart that you can do it.

    EktaSingh,

Do not be discouraged because English is not your first language. English is my second language too, and I have scored 99 in audit. Just do your best and you will pass it.

    Good Luck!

    Far 83 (Jan 2014)
    Reg 90 (May 2014)
    Bec 84 (Aug 2014)
    Aud 99 (Nov 2014)
    Ethics 96
