I’ve taken FAR before and my score averages around the low sixties.

I’m studying for my retake but I want to make a drastic change in my approach. I have the wiley 2013 text, becker 2012 textbook, testbank expired earlier this month.

What worked for you? I’m open to trying new things for a better result.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

    A - 2/2/15 - 76: PASSED
    B - 7/20/15 - 74, 73
    R - 7/24/15 - patiently waiting for 8/25 score release
    F - sometime in October

Hey future ninja… We had the same FAR scores.

Becker, a library, and about 200 hours of study time. The retake was extremely more difficult than the first attempt and nothing similar.

I would update your materials or purchase the NINJA MCQs. I used mostly ninja on the retake.

Make sure you know Gov and NFP and journal entries for every transaction possible.

    AUD - 90
    FAR - 71, 76
    REG - 75
    BEC - 76 (bubble sucks)

IFRS & Gov Accounting definitely carried me through the multiple choice. Knowing journal entries is insanely helpful. I think otherwise its just a lot of knowing as much as you can about each topic so that you have enough luck getting questions you'll know on the test. Be OK not knowing everything.

    FAR - 78
    AUD - 82
    REG - 79
    BEC - 78

future ninja, are those four 74's for real ?

sorry but I had to ask

I used Becker and bought extra simulations (I always struggled with SIMS). My key to finally getting over the hump, I got a 73, 74, 83, was JOURNAL ENTRIES. You have to know every JE for every question (if applicable). Write it down, write it down again. Once I spent the extra time learning (not just memorizing) all JE, multiple choice was easier and all simulation were MUCH easier.

    Good luck!

    BEC - Passed (1st attempt)
    AUD - Passed (2nd attempt)
    REG - Passed (1st attempt)
FAR - Passed (3rd times the charm)

    What worked?

Reading all of the horror stories here of FAR. I only wanted to take FAR once and I did. Passed all on the first try.

250-300 hours total study time over approximately 10 weeks.

It's 30% luck! No, I will change it to 36%!!! when the luck is on your side, you will be tested on the topics you are confident with. It's pretty simple. I hope you get lucky next round!

There's this Hawaiian BBQ place next to my work and I love that place! They hook it up! $10 plate you will get 5 pounds of food! You can't beat that!

You just need to find a study plan that works for you. I skipped all of the Becker final review stuff except for the 2 final exams. I made a big study guide of the most important topics of each chapter (cut out super minor details). When I finished that, I went through and re-wrote the concepts that were still fuzzy to me until I knew them really well (pensions, dollar value LIFO, installment sales). You really shouldn't need to put in 150+ hours to get a 75. You just need to find a study plan that makes sense for the way you learn.

    FAR: 90
    AUD: 94
    REG: 84
    BEC: November 25th
