I wrote what’s below the day I found out I passed my final exam. It sums up the mindset I had going into these exams and helped me pass.

My goal is to help someone who might be stuck somewhere along this process to getting moving in the right direction, not to belittle or discourage. Take it for what it is. Good luck, You know You can do this.

    “Excuses justify failure.”

I’ve always understood that passing the CPA exam was my responsibility only. Yes, I had a supportive spouse and no kids, but that was my situation. Studying got difficult, but I had to plan around my personal situation and I had to stick to it.

Any excuses that would come with failing would simply validate I did not do my job when it came to preparing for and taking the exam. I could blame my prep material, the exam, office workload, etc. But why would I? I sat in the seat and took the exam I should get all the benefit as well as the blame.

If I didn’t pass that’s ok, but getting on track starts with me, not my prep material.

Ultimately the choice to pass was mine alone. When I was ready to stop studying I went ahead and knocked out another 30 mcqs, because that drive was the difference between pass and fail.

I had to make a plan, stick to it, and if life got too busy to take the exam… I wouldn’t have. I would come back when I could fully commit.

I earned this and I deserve all the credit… and when You pass, so should You.
