Two weeks ago I applied EY through campus recruiting. But it’s been two weeks, and I still have no respond crom them. Does this suggest that I have been declined?

When are the on-campus interviews scheduled for? If they're within 2-3 days or already happened, you didn't get it.

    bigfourexpert-

Just curious- what level employee are you? You seem to know the ropes more than the average Another71er.

I'm not here for the cpa study, let's put it like that. But it's also the internet, so take it with a grain of salt.

Good point. I guess the answer doesn't doesn't matter much anyway. I've been doing this long enough to meet incompetent partners and rock star seniors.

How do you like the Big 4?

@bigfourexpert would you know…. how long to hear back from background check company? Or how to check the status of the process?

They didn't have a schedule for campus interview. The application is directly transferred to EY.

@bill – I don't mind big4 at all lol. It's a job, but when you tell someone you work at a Big4 and you see their reaction, it always makes it worth it. That and in general you get so many opportunities to travel/network/learn that there's really no down side.

@Top – I can't get into too many specifics as I'm sure the background check for my firm isn't the exact same process as another firm, but in general it depends on whether or not the person being hired has graduated yet or not and when their final degree conferring transcript is received. It's not a quick process but nothing crazy. Is there a specific issue you're having..? You'll either pass the check or not lol. They'll ask for more info if they need it.

@gundam – You said it was on-campus recruiting, no? On-campus recruiting usually means first round is at the school and then you're invited to an office visit. Yes, the application comes directly to us but I don't think I've heard of a Big4 holding a first round interview anywhere but the school (for on-campus recruiting). Ask your career center as soon as possible to confirm that there are no interviews scheduled.

@bigfourexpert oh no no issues… as far as I know LOL

I just want to give a notice to my current employer and want to know if it's all good…. just want to make sure, ya know…. how do I find out? Should I call them?

I don't really know the specifics of your situation so it's hard to give advice. You've been extended an offer and have a start date and you've submitted all of your background check materials? Honestly, as far as I know, you don't get notified that it's done or you passed, just if you have something outstanding or there's an issue. Assuming the firm gave you a link to the third party checker to fill out info, you could give that company a call, sure. It wouldn't be the accounting firm you'd ask, but the checker directly.

    bigfourexpert-

Thanks. My wife's a manager (about to be Director) at one and I have some solid connections through her- national level Partners ask her when I'm “coming aboard”. I would never ask “what's it like” to any of her coworkers without being 100% set on throwing my hat in the ring.

It's funny you mention the reaction- normally the Big 4 auditors I talk to at the firm events give me the eyes-wide-open look when they hear that I do forensics- with some fairly large criminal engagements (there are some due diligence/valuation jobs mixed in too). Her firm has a forensics practice in our market, but it's fairly small (relative to the firm) and they mostly work with SEC (the SEC can only do civil cases). The civil cases generally aren't as interesting as the criminal cases.

I should add that the forensic work is really just an audit with a narrow scope. I'd never let them know that though.

bigfourexpert- will an arrest cause an offer from big 4 to be rescinded, even if it was disclosed beforehand? I'm worried about it because I've heard on here that companies will toss a resume for an arrest? Is it unheard of for someone to get into big 4 with such a heinous impropriety in their background?

Is it just an arrest or was there a conviction? Misdemeanor? Age? Expunged?

    The devil's in the details.

    @bigfourexpert

I know it sounds weird. But it's true. This year we have 2 big 4 coming and both do on campus recruiting. Pwc does the 1st round on campus and shows a schedule. But EY doesnt have that. I have confirmed with the career center that the candidates files are transferred directly to EY, and the interview details will be notified by EY if candidates are selected. It is not often because last year, EY did a schedule and the campus interview in my college. I have no idea why it changes this year.

Bill – I'm not in audit so if you told me you were in forensical auditing I wouldn't bat an eyelash. Your wife is more impressive. =)

Bedhead – Need way more details. You say an offer being rescinded, but it was disclosed before hand.. so why would they rescind an offer on that if they already knew.. and then you're talking about resumes, which is obviously way before an offer.. or an interview haha. If it makes you feel better, I know some people with some circumstances, but it honestly will always depend on numerous factors.

Gundam – What it sounds like then is EY is not focusing on recruiting at your school but is going through the formality to keep the relationship open with the career center/campus. If they have no interviews scheduled for on-campus then they most likely have no slots for the school, but will still keep in mind any EXCEPTIONAL applicants which they can just skip the first round interview for (it happens) and bring in immediately for the office visit (but most likely separately and not with other 2nd rounders). I would then say it's not looking good for you, but would also encourage you to reach out to your local office's recruiter as they will respond to your status question.
