So, I know this question gets ask in similar fashion but for my mental well being will someone please direct me to how long they studied each of the 10 sections of FAR using Becker? I work full time, am married and have a 4 yr. old boy that I want to see grow up so I’m struggling with the time frames. This is my first section and as I’ve mentioned in prior posts I well underestimated the CPA exam. I was trying to do one section per 7 day week but didn’t feel like I was retaining the information after staring at it for hours at the time.

I know this is different for everyone but any advice is great and very much appreciated!

Well, since you already said you couldn't get a section in a 7 day week and you have a lot of other obligations, why don't you just study each section until you DO retain the information? Don't book your exam until you're through chapter 7 or so and you have an idea of how much time you need. If its your first and your clock hasn't started ticking yet, take it when YOU are ready. Maybe try one section in 1.5 weeks. If that's not enough take a little bit longer. Modify it for yourself and you'll see. Some topics will be easier to grasp on the first shot while others might take more repetition until you're comfortable.

I'm finishing FAR now and I personally have been doing 2 chapters a week for 5 weeks, saved 2 weeks for final review, and now have 3 days until test day. Am I ready? No idea. Our time is not comparable though considering I don't work, on summer break from school, not married, and don't have a kid! Only you know yourself. Do what feels right. It would be very hard to compare our study situations. As it would be to compare yourself to many others.

BTW major props for having all of those obligations and even finding time/motivation to study, period. I want to go crazy, and this is literally the only responsibility in my life right now besides showering/eating…

Everyone has different paces. I personally believe people get caught up in trying to understand every single thing of every single section, and they burn a lot of time. I spent about 6 weeks studying, 130 hours, and what i did was go through FAR chapters as fast as i could. THEN did tons of progress test and final review to bring it all together. My advice would be figure out what works for you, but definitely don't spin your wheels on certain chapters you can always go back. Sorry if this doesnt help!

    FAR: 05/29/15 - 80

Watch the videos, then dive into the MCQ and learn from that. Don't be afraid to pull up the ebook and read about the question if you don't know the answer or want to read about the concept being asked. Do this for each chapter. When you're all done redo all the the MCQ before you sit for the exam. This way you build a familiarity and initial learning the first time through and then cram it all again at the end and all the concept will be fresh before you sit-all 10 chapters 🙂 Keep at it for one section a week. Don't worry if you don't pick up everything the first time through, come back to it later.

EDIT: the hell with reading the book. I didn't read a single page..only reading I did was go through certain pages when I pulled up the ebook to drill down into a concept-as you should. Mindlessly reading the chapter is no benefit to me and it already has been read to you by Peter and Tim..I literally was falling asleep when I'd try and read the book and it took me forever because my head would drop and I'd wake back up lmao

Thanks for the tips everyone. I'm so used to understanding/knowing the information I studied in college that the CPA questions are like reading another language almost! Personally, I quit listening to the lectures, I just let them play through to show I've done them. I was listening to them for the first two sections but was not grasping anything because of trying to keep up with Peter and Tim while making notes. I read on here many people saying they do not listen to them as well so I tried another method. Now, I read the sections myself and do the corresponding questions directly after. I seem to grade better initially this way.

Good luck with your test cb_6185!
