    Becker Question –

How many times should i read the chapter before testing? I’m having a really hard time keeping up with studying while working in my first busy season. I started intense studying around January and slacked off for a few weeks due to intense traveling and now i feel like i need to re-read chapters 1- 3 again. So would it be best to just review my notes and keep moving or re read chapters

I would read some chapters 3 or 4 times. Repetition is key.

    BEC - 5/26/2013 75
    REG - 8/31/2013 82
    AUD - 11/24/2013 74, 2/9/2014 92
    FAR - 5/25/2014 85

How fast do you read a chapter? The first time of reading should be slower because you would take notes, correct?

I used Becker and never read a chapter. I just watched the 3-4 hour lecture for each chapter and went straight to the multiple choice after that.

Got high 80s and 90s on each section with this approach.

Becker essentially reads the book to you. The small stuff they leave out don't seem to have affected my scores or anything I saw on the exam. I didn't have anything that was one tiny line that Becker didn't cover. Plus you can pause the video and quickly read the paragraph they skip over.

On my first run, I watched all lectures, marked up the books, and answered all questions. On my second run, I quickly skimmed the chapter and answered all questions again. After that, I used the Gliem test bank and took 30MC practice quizes pulling from all sections. If I was scoring over 70 after ten or so practice tests, I was in the Prometric center ASAP. Passed all first try. I also did not do one single practice sim for any section. Waist of time. You either know the material or you don't.

I listen to the lecture then sometimes I skim it again right after I listen to the lecture. Once I'm done with the whole book I do skim/read it again. I don't know how much of this helps solidify the info. But If your running short on time I would stick to mcq vs the book.

@CPA33, Do you think Gleim test bank is good enough, does it look like what you are gonna see on the exam day.Why did you opt to use Becker books and Gleim test bank instead of going all out with one. Please i need your advice on both Gleim and Becker materials, which do you think is the best or how can i combine get the best out of my study time.

    Thanks

@Excobar: The firm purchased becker for me and I purchased Gliem to supplement. Becker's videos and books are the best IMO for a review course, but Gliem's test bank and progress tracking tools are far superior. The Gliem review course itself is comprehensive and can be overwhelming because they cover everything. If you can afford it, I'd highly recommend purchasing the Gliem test bank.

@CPA33. That was really helpful. I got 2014 Becker books from a friend and i was wondering if the book will prepare me enough for the exam, because i also have Gleim review material and like you said, it is really overwhelming and too lengthy compared to the Becker materials. But i have not purchased any test bank yet, so i was debating on getting either Wiley, Gleim or Ninja. But i think i may settle with Gleim test bank but will study with the Becker materials.

Thanks for your input, because obviously not many people on here use Gleim product

    • I feel like the videos are the biggest waste of time in the world, just my opinion.
    • I feel like sitting there and reading the book is a waste of time, just my opinion.
    • I feel like studying MCQ's and building up mental endurance is a nice way to prepare, just my opinion.

@CPA33 thanks for recommending Gliem test bank. This is just what I needed after reviewing the demo. I'm going to drop some money for the test bank.

I used Wiley, not Becker, but I think study strategy would have been the same. I didn't like lectures, but I read all the way through the book once without taking notes. I would stop at the end of each section and answer the book MCQ and highlight important info in the answer key. I would go back and write notes from the highlighted info if I was having trouble remembering anything. Once I got through the book in it's entirety I would start working the test bank section by section. The only time I went back and reread anything was when I was having difficulty on a particular topic, but it was rare for me to reread. The MCQ over and over and over really helped me nail down the concepts more than rereading would have. Everyone is different though.

I watched the video and highlight go through the whole process. Then never read it again unless I am struggling on MCs

MC- I read why I got it wrong, and if I wasn't quite sure of the answer I may read why I got it right.

Worked for 2 of 3 parts lol

I didn't complete all the REG work and my score showed it

I never, formally, read the book for any section. I would watch the lectures and take notes as I went along. I highlighted for FAR but stopped doing that in AUD. Becker (in particular Tim Gearty) wants you to highlight EVERYTHING and that seemed counter productive to me. I was spending more time focusing on highlighting everything and not spending time absorbing the information. So I stopped highlighting.

When I finished the lectures, I hit MCQ really hard. Becker's MCQ bank and NINJA's bank. I only pull out my book if there's a concept I'm struggling with.
