How much study time do you get at work?

I passed audit a while back but I’m sure that was due to having down time for a month at work and using that to mostly study. I’ve since changed firms since I passed audit and the situation has changed as well. We have been severely understaffed and finding time to study at work seems impossible. I feel like my passing is reliant on studying during the day when given the chance. Ive already pushed BEC back twice thinking we’d eventually get time to study at work. Any ideas on what I should do?

I never studied at work…many people don't. You'll just have to start using your evenings and weekends more effectively.

Banking on studying time at work probably isn't gonna get it done. Nights and weekends, like most of us….

    BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

My study time “at work” is done after everyone else leaves for the day, typically between the hours of 5 – 11 PM, and that's only if my daughter is with her dad. Otherwise, studying only happens between 10:00 PM and 1:00 AM (or less if I pass out.)

    Consider yourself lucky.

I only study when the managers/partners tells me that no work, go study, which happens sometimes, but it is not very effective. I prefer go there 1/2 hours earlier to study because it is quite.

Lol y'all act like getting study time at work is something unheard of. News flash: many recent graduates get study time at their desk between assignments especially in the slower months. Now if you'd like to get off your high horse and provide some actual insight then carry on.

It sounds like you just answered your own question – perhaps you should simply wait until the slower months come back around if your employer is nice enough to pay you to study at work.

Otherwise, as others have stated, you might want to figure out how to make more efficient use of your nights and weekends.

This process is not supposed to be easy, and most people make major sacrifices to get through it.

Not that it is unheard of. Having study time at work is one thing, but counting on study time at work is another thing.

Recently, I started coming into work 30 minutes early to get a few flashcards in. However, I prefer to use my lunch break to get an hour in while I eat. Sometimes, I even combine my breaks for another 30 minutes and if there's some serious down time…I can get some questions in. It just depends on your job. I do a lot of work from home, so eventually it balances out. Aside from that, I come home everyday and study after my husband leaves for work and my children go to bed.

I'm guessing it's more likely in.public but in industry it really is unheard of to do anything on paid time that's not a direct immediate benefit to the company. I would have had just as much luck doing my nails on company time as I would have had if I were caught studying.

I only have private experience, may be different in public, but I've never had a job that permitted studying on the job regardless of whether there was down time or not. The closest I came to studying at work was arriving early to study before my work day began, studying during lunch, and staying in late to study… and even that was frowned on at one of my jobs with my manager advising me to walk away from my desk when I studied prior to/after work and during my lunch.

Additionally, CPA and MBA are not viewed as additional training you did to develop yourself for some reason. Those are viewed as personal development stuff an when I am filling out those appraisal sheets I am advised not to include those things.

I also don't understand how you not having a large supply of downtime means that your firm is under-staffed… it sounds more like your prior firm was over-staffed.

Sounds like most people are afraid to push the limits and do what they need to do.

I work in private industry and studied during work as much as I could. Gave me more time to do things I wanted to do afterwards. Got caught once, said I was sorry, but continued doing it. Get your actual work done fast and give yourself time to study at the office as much as you can

It's your life.. you don't owe half your day to an employer. Study during work and get it done
