How much time to spend on TBS and research based questions

I’m about 2 weeks out from my FAR exam and have been drilling MCQs exclusively for the last week. It seems there are mixed feelings among people about how much time to spend going through SIMS and research based questions. I’m just looking to read more about those mixed feelings if anyone has any thoughts to share.

    Thanks.

For FAR, I immediately write down the times on my whiteboards allocating 30 min for each testlet… I could do 25min for the first, but need 50 mins for the second, etc. I try to stay within those times so that I can leave about 2 hours for the SIMS. I HAVE to look through all the SIMS to see what each is and I start with the non-number based ones first or ones I know how to do. Then I have an anxiety attack for about 10 minutes before I calm down and do them. I always run out of time, but I never leave anything blank and I try to use the AL as much as possible (because I think of myself as a professional googler, I feel I can find answers which probably does me more harm than good :P)

I always use the flags backwards as well, I flag the ones that I am completely done with so I know not to waste time going back to it. I rarely finish one before moving on to the next if I am stumped or frustrated. Again, this is probably not a good thing, but just my experience.

Thanks a lot for your post samdiegoCPA. That's excellent input that I'll definitely use. Unfortunately, it's for a question that I haven't even started worrying about yet :-p. I should have been more specific, I was asking about how much time to spend drilling/studying these. My fault. Thanks again.

I try to get through all the SIMS at least once in whatever test bank I'm using just to get a feel for the different types of questions because they are very different than the MCQ. I don't feel the review course SIMS are the best representation of the Actual SIMS, but I still like to see them before tackling the real test.
