How Simulations are Rated in Exam

If simulation is based on random selection and not how we perform in MCQ , can we conclude its purely luck? How can AICPA compare a easy simulation with a tough one? When we get our comparable score obviously the one who got a easy simulation will be stronger than the person who got a easy one.

For e.g my audit simulation was very hard but lot of persons in this forum said their simulation were word to word from AL. This baffles me how this can be a uniformity in scoring?

I would say a couple things play into this…

First, there's 7 of them that total the 40% of score. That doesn't mean that each one is 5.7%; there could be an easy one that's 2% of the total score and a hard one that's 20% of the total score. (Actually, I think 1 or 2 are pre-test usually, so it'd be more than 5.7% if they're all even, but the point is the same…)

Second, “easy” and “hard” is very subjective from person to person. I would say that the answer for all the SIMs can be found in the AL in one part in way or another, since that's the rules, so “right” or “wrong” is in the rules. However, that doesn't mean that they're all word-for-word, or that they're easier or harder to be word-for-word. I thought my SIMs were relatively easy; I didn't look any of them up in the AL except the research question, so couldn't tell you if they were there or not. The reason they were easy was because I was familiar with the topics…and that's really the point of the exam, to test what you know, and if you know it then it's easy whether it's in the AL or not.

yes AUD sims you can find in AL especially the ones about reports (review, compilation and aud). I found one of my SIM in AL.

Becker self-study, Wiley Test Bank and books, Becker final review. NINJA MCQ bank and NINJA notes for BEC only!

For AUD at least, the difference between finding something in the AL word for word or not is being able to determine the correct keywords to use in the search. If someone can't find something in the AL chances are they picked the wrong word or words to search for. That's the challenging part of using the AL.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

Easy and hard are relative words. Think about Math vs. English. Some people think one is easier than the other, they are both difficult, or both easy. I failed AUD the first because of my poor performance in the Sims. I studied the material, but not in a way I was comfortable with the way it was presented in the Sim. My second time around, I got “easy” Sims but had also covered the topic going through the material in two different ways (CPA Excel & Ninja).

    BEC - 87
    AUD - 74, 92
    REG - 82
    FAR - 65, 85

I gave my aud two times missing with just 1 point. Both the attempts i was weaker on MCQ and stronger on sims. This time i did my MCQ so well. When i came to sims i dont know. It was so long and too many calculations. Is there any one who got a tough sim or am i the only one feeling like that?

I've seen many many posts from people saying that the AUD SIMs destroyed them, so you're definitely not the only person who found them difficult! 🙂 Good for you getting your MCQs stronger – that shows improvement.
