How the hell do you study for AUD?

I’m using CPAexcel and the lectures bore me to death. Also, it seems that CPAexcel tends to recycle a lot of its questions. Literally like 1 in every 10 questions or so, I would go, “hmmmm now this question look awfully familiar.” By the way, for those who have Ninja audio for AUD, how helpful (or not helpful) did you find it?

I did not know of A71 when I was studying for AUD but now that I do know of A71 I imagine the NINJA notes and audio would be fantastic fo AUD if they are anything like REG NINJA! I agree the lectures are terribly boring with CPAExcel. I did not watch them. I read the book and took my own notes then did the MC questions. Yes some of them are duplicates but I found repetition was helpful in the long run. I also supplemented with other MC questions and just kept doing them until I couldn't stand them.

Hope that helps! You can do this. đŸ™‚

The best advice I could possibly give for AUD is RTFQ! Audit is tricky as he!!. One word can completely change the answer to the question. I can't help you with the boring part, but I'm an Audit geek and read governmental audits for fun!

The videos are awful – one nerd after the other – LOL. I am actually almost done with the videos after one week.

I started using CPAReviewForFree. It's pretty good for AUD I think (not for FAR)…

I will invest in Ninja Audio and/or Wiley IF I fail a part. I want to keep my studies concentrated to one or two sources.

    And yes – RTMFQ!!!

I am getting around 70% on MCQs after a week of videos/light studying. But I am sure there will be tricky parts…

@Getting I found the cpareviewforfree questions really made you RTFQ to get the answer right with AUD. That kind of pratice helps come test day. Those questions are so tricky.

How the hell do you study for audit, you ask? VERY carefully. RTFMQ!!!!!!!!!!! There are so many tricks and traps, exceptions to the exceptions, and nuisances/inferences that it will just drive you nuts. I'm a tax queen and the slippery and ambiguous nature of auditing just kills me. Give me a like kind exchange, 1245 recapture, or partnership basis computations any day over this horrible crap. Not that I'm bitter about about this section and am retesting next Tuesday and sick of studying auditing or anything like that! Not at all… đŸ˜‰

On a positive note, Ninja Audio is great for helping you get hooked into the core topic ideas and your review materials will help you cut your teeth on the subtleties. I've been listening in my car on my absurd commute daily and it's been making a big difference in my retention. I like to read/listen to a topic with Ninja, then take notes/read/do Wiley chapter end MCQs, and then re-read the ninja notes again to firm up all of the info. Frankly, after reading the reporting chapter for example in Wiley I am pretty desperate for something comprehensive, concise, and in plain language! Considering what you get for the money, it's worth every penny and cost effective.

    Good luck everyone!!!!! đŸ™‚

@jlg2010 – I found the “I Passed” and “Just Took” threads helpful in multiple ways. That's a great suggest.

@ Mints – Your first paragraph just made my night. I'm lol'ing over here. Only because I feel like I'm riding this slow train through hell with you. And while I was rooting for your AUD score last time, I was heartbroken when I saw you came up shy of 75. I know you are going to kill it this time. My underestimated, powerful, extremely pissed off sister đŸ™‚

CPA Romantic – MCQ's and mastering the Authoritative Literature are the keys to passing. I have found Ninja audio extremely helpful. I rewrote the notes and it really helped summarize the Wiley concepts. But I also had a difficult time with the reporting section and the overall beginning to end concept of an audit. I spent an afternoon in Barnes and Noble skimming through Auditing for Dummies to help make sense of it all.
