How to approach FAR retest

I am starting to study for a FAR retest. I took it in the last window and ended up with a 63, which was the 1st time I’ve taken it. I don’t know exactly how to approach the material this time. If you were me, would you redo all of the homework (Becker), take progress tests and see weaker areas, or start with some other means? I have found that the Becker lectures don’t work well for me. I can’t stay in place that long and the lectures from Becker are not portable.

I am also planning on adding Ninja – a 10 point combo. for this section or whatever other Ninja products you fine folks suggest.

Help me! How would you go about this? If it helps, my score review showed this —

    Framework and Standards — comparable

    Governmental — comparable

    Not-for-profit — comparable

    Financial statement accounts — weaker

    Specific transactions/events — weaker

    MCQ — weaker

    Sims — weaker

    Thank you for all advice!

I wouldn't put too much stock in the score report. Those are practically useless. My advice is to start studying from the beginning. Adding the Ninja audios will really help. You can put those on your ipod or phone and listen to them while you are on the go. You can do it!

Thanks, I really appreciate your advice. I am looking for the convenience of the Ninja audio. I work full time and am a mom, so it's hard for me to stay in one place to listen to a full lecture. I so need to be done with this exam!!

Becker has now free apps on iPhone. I uploaded them on the phone just 3 weeks ago. It was cool and very handy just like NINJA audio. Adding NINJA-Combo on my next attempts with FAR enabled me to score 11+.

Are you referring to the flashcards?

It sounds like you just need to sit down and do an evaluation of what you know and don't know.

It seems over whelming and difficult to know where to start when sitting for a retake. I found that it helps to create a list of all the sections and then evaluate them accordingly. Spend heavy time on the items you are the weakest at, and spend review time on the items you are familiar with. The key is to keep at it and don't let the overwhelming feelings keep you spinning in place. Remember to stay positive and focus on the details while maintaining your time line and over all study plan.

Lastly, stay positive and remember to tell yourself often…You can do it!

Becker's entire software on iPhone, with lectures, HWs, progress tests, final tests, everything you have on laptop and desktop.

Thanks for all of the suggestions – it is appreciated! I can't wait until after tomorrow, so that I at least have a bit more time for extra hours of studying. 10-15 can't come soon enough.

Grr … again I can't log-in to a Becker app with my password. The app must be yet another thing that I have to pay for to have access. Trying out NINJA instead, which should be a good supp. in addition to Becker.

    Thanks everyone!

Nope, it's free for candidates who bought the software. I uploaded it on my iPhone & iPad.

I can use it anywhere, tune on it even when driving, while waiting on check-out lane when shopping, while sitting on the toilet bowl (LOL, pardon for TMI), or vacuuming, under my pillows, name it all!

Check your mobile app store from your phone.

Yeah right Zubairs, it's really cool. I like my phone now even better, instead of looking at my crazy FB, Becker is worth listening to (and a few MCQ/Progress Tests to work on) even if it keeps saying, “Highlight that” by Tim G. LOL

I have trouble using the words upload and download, gggrrrr….LOL. My husband already corrected me with that using “I downloaded it on my YouTube page.” Oh well.

I have the Becker app on my iPhone and did not have to pay. I purchased Becker self-study. I listen to the lectures while commuting, going for a walk/run, etc. Allows me to study without interrupting my life quite so much.

As for methods, I am not all that experienced in the realm of score reports, being that I have only taken one section of the exam (FAR, last weekend), so I can't say how reliable they are. However, if I end up having to retake FAR, my plan is simply to continue doing multiple choice questions & SIMS, taking notes on any conceptual issues that come up as I go through the questions, and hitting my weaker areas harder. I've read the entire Becker FAR book and watched all of the lecture videos. Aside from areas like government and NFP where additional knowledge of the topic might be more helpful than problem-solving practice, I think my time is better spent getting actual practice at answering questions than reviewing the lectures and text.

i'm focusing less on MC and more on Sims. Most of the MC you get are gonna be over the same gist, SIMS test your application, and really fills in missing areas you weren't grasping bc to test in MC would be too tricky or take over 1.5 mins to do. SIMs can teach you things that pop up in MC, but MC can't always teach you what will appear in SIMs.

I've truly learned how to use my review material, and no matter materials, trust it. They're not gonna give you a question for something they didn't tell you about in the review book. Retaking FAR has been, honestly i don't remember, haha it's been a blur. you're pissed about it for the first week but then you get over it. I restarted my whole review, so i didn't have past scores to trick me into thinking i knew something i studied for over almost 3 months ago

@caseyTX I agree with you strategy. There's another poster on the forum (@mamabear) who followed the same strategy on her 1st attempt at FAR. She only did MCQs and SIMS with NINJA notes & Audio, no books or lectures and scored a whooping 81. I think with FAR that's the best way to go as the material is way too much as compared to other sections.

btw you listed powerlifting in your interests 🙂 how much do you Squat, Bench & DL? have you been into any meets or you just love powerlifting?
