How to handle work as a first year at a cpa firm? Do they expect a lot?

I worked at a construction company for two years (small business) and did all the bookkeeping, so I have a pretty good grasp on debits and credits and how F/S work.

I started at a cpa firm (60-70 people total) two weeks ago. The first week was training and learning the software. I feel like every day I get a little better, then hit a roadblock, get a little better, then roadblock, etc. It’s definitely taking me longer than an experienced accountant to get taxes done!

I’ve never done taxes before. My two senior tax guys both said they don’t expect at all to be super proficient right away. I get paranoid and overthink things…I feel like they notice that I’m a bit slower to finish client tax returns!

In your experience, what is expected of first years?
