How to join Big 4

    Hi,

    Just passed all four sections of CPA. About to give ethics exam this month. Does anyone knows how to join big4? Any tips would help.

    AUD Passed
    REG Passed
    FAR Passed
    BEC Passed

    PETH (CA Ethics) 64,74

    They typically hire through University recruitment, i.e. Career Fairs, BAP, On-Campus events.

    You should be active on campus and networking with the recruiters and other accounting students.

    Prep a flawless resume and be prepared to sell yourself at those types of events, and if they like you, you will be offered to interview.

    Interview 1 – Is typically an on-campus (or sometimes on-site) interview. It is behavioral based.

    Interview 2 – Is typically on-site (and in groups) where you interview with multiple members of the firm, i.e. Partners, Directors, Managers, and/or Seniors.

    If you fit in, and sell yourself enough, you can expect an offer.

    FYI – Big 4 usually hires out at least 6-12 months ahead of the anticipated start date, so be sure to acknowledge that and plan accordingly.

    That is all.

    I was fortunate to have interned with the Big 4 I worked at for 4 summers right out of high school (my actual audit internship didn't come until the summer before I entered into my senior year in college). I was pretty much set and knew (as long as I didn't screw it up) that I had a job upon graduation so was spared the job search. Most others I studied with were recruited going into their Senior year for internships through campus recruitment. When I started, most entry level hires were interns with me the summer before. While working at a Big 4, from what I could tell, most non entry level new hires (seniors, managers, etc) came from other Big 4's.

    If you are still in school, make sure you are actively seeking out those opportunities. Ask the questions to you department and just make sure you are in the know and ready for the chance to sell yourself, pretty much what @brickell cpa said.

    As long as you can fill the gap on your resume, it shouldn't be a problem.

    In other words, what were you involved in after your graduation to when you are applying for the job? Be sure to fill that void with good experience and leadership opportunities that show you were active; also include what sections of the exam you've passed.

    Either way, as alumni, you shouldn't have a problem going to the Career Fair's and participating in the events in order to meet the recruitment professionals, etc.

    There is always on opportunity to join the Big 4, but why anyone would want to work more for less pay? That's another story.

    I would contact your old university or get in touch with anyone in your past (local) grapevine to get recruiter's e-mails.
