How to remember what you studied weeks ago?

Hey all. I’ve taken AUD twice and FAR once and have yet to pass any of them. A main problem I feel I have I have a hard time remembering the intricacies of things I’ve studied weeks ago. For example, the review course I took gave me 11 books for AUD. It takes me 2-3 days to get through a book and feel like a know the material very well. After that, I’ll move on to the next book. However, when I finish all the books, after say 4 weeks, and go back to the earlier books I studied, I find that I’ve forgotten a lot of the things I learned and have to pretty much go through the entire book again. This is even a bigger problem with FAR when I have even more books.

So, my question is, how do you keep previously learned materials “fresh” while learning new material? If it helps, time is not an issue as my job doesn’t start until next October and I am out of school. Thanks in advance.

I definitely have this same issue. These sections contain so much material i find it almost impossible to memorize everything studying in such short time frames.

If time is not an issue, do progress test every so often to keep the material fresh. I work full time, so i NEED to get through the material quick and although i forget alot of it, i try my best in the final review to brush up on everything

I think this happens to everyone. Making flashcards for each book (or chapter, in my case with Becker) helps so that you have something to review as often as you can, if you have the time. I didn't always have enough time to keep up with that as well as I would have liked. Progress tests are good ideas too, if you have them. The thing to remember is to give yourself several weeks to just review, if you can, at the end when you are done with the initial study time. This is really when it all comes together and you try to work on tons of MCQ's and read all the answers as you do them. This helps to solidify everything.

    FAR - 92 (4/27/12)
    AUD - 96 (7/17/12)
    BEC - 92 (8/30/12)
    REG - 91 (11/12/12)

What review course do you use? Some courses are more detailed, which only makes this problem more difficult.

But back to the point, yes, this happens to everyone. Make sure you review everything as you get closer to the exam. And try not to spend too much time studying for any one section. The longer you strech your study time out, the more likely you'll forget the stuff you learned at the beginning (which is why 3-5 weeks per section is usually recommended, especially if you are not working full-time).

    REG - Passed!!
    BEC - Passed
    FAR - Passed
    AUD - Passed

I used the NIU CPA review. The company I signed with is covering the cost of Becker so I'll be getting their materials as well.

Really, after browsing the forum I think my problem has been not doing enough MCQ. In my first time doing AUD, I didn't even get through all the MCQ questions for some of the subjects. My only exposure to them was reading the book once. This time around, I'm going to give myself twice the time and make sure I do all the MCQ questions multiple times.
