I passed FAR & REG. One of my friend asked to borrow my Becker textbooks for these 2 sections. I wanted to say no, but how???

1. She is a just so-so friend to me.

2. Do i violate any rules by transferring the book?

I have not had a similar experience, but it is violating the Becker rules. You are not supposed to let anyone else use your textbooks or software. I'm not saying that people don't do this, but you asked if it was violating any rules. If you don't want to share just say you don't feel comfortable since it is a violation. I know it is hard to say no to people (I struggle with that) but you need to do what you want to do.

I personally let a friend of mine use my Becker materials when I was done with them. The reason is that he is still a student and thus didn't have an employer who would pay for the materials like mine did… those materials are expensive. I didn't see the harm in helping out a friend pass the exam.

That being said, it is technically against Becker's policies. It really is a personal judgment call. If you want to say no, that's probably what I'd tell her.

I think it was really nice to help out a friend and fellow cpa candidate. I believe that good comes to them that do good. Becker might not agree but your friend might give up on becoming a cpa simply because they cannot afford review materials for $3000. Believe me Becker makes more off candidates that do not have generous employers to pay for review materials. i'm hoping someone that has passed will some how contact me with a gift…..lol

Does Becker have a charity site or anyone else that might be giving away at least one part?…preferably FAR :-))

If you dont want to give it to them just say that the textbooks are really worthless without the software. And i think everyone who has taken any CPA review ever would agree with that statement. Just studying the books alone wont help that much, they need to review the MCQs and Sims.. Just say that to them, then follow it up by you only get a limited number of software licenses that Becker keeps track so you cant give out the software or else it would violate their terms and Becker would know. Causing you to lose your license. I think that your friend would understand. That is a polite way of saying no.

If the material is copyrighted and they tell you not to give or sell them to other people then the answer is easy. Say no and use this reason while saying a good CPA should adhere to ethical and legal standards in all aspects of their life.
