I just started started studying for BEC, I’m actually already having difficulty comprehending the subject matter already in B1 (Becker) the Coso cube and what not. Is BEC just straight memorization? what’s the best way to go about studying for BEC, do I actually attempt to learn the concepts are just basically memorize the the questions/answers. Any advice?

I'm in a similar boat. I've been studying BEC for about 9 days and am not even half way through B2. So far this stuff is TOUGH. Coming off AUD I could do sets of 30 questions in 15-20 mins, yesterday I spent almost 2 hours on a set of 30 for BEC. It is taking me forever to retain this material. However, I hear things mellow out a bit material-wise after B2.

I haven't taken the test yet, but I know Corporate Governance is important, which is in B1. Most of B1 and, so far, B2 covers Cost Accounting which is tricky (for me at least). Get to know the language and the formulas. The material for this exam is kind of all over the place so I'm trying to nail it home both conceptually and mathematically/formulas.

Yep agreed, any advice would be appreciated. This stuff is slow to get through. I wasn't expecting this much calculation. As I sit here debating whether or not to start a another subsection of MCQ in B2, going at a snails pace.

I went through Becker, and what both of you are saying sounds about right. B1, B2, B3, take a lot of time. The MCQ are really rough. I went through the lectures first and did the MCQ. Initially did that for all the chapters. After that I read the book/ reviewed the book and made my own notes, and re-did the MCQ for B1, B2, B3, and B5. Took a LONG time but it helped me. This is also my first time using becker so dont take my advice lol, I believe everyone feels the same way for the first 3 chapters when using Becker.

You guys got this – B2 and B3 were awful. The calcs take FOREVER and you feel like you're spinning your wheels. Just trudge through and the later chapters will calm down a bit. I remember seeing something like 108 MCQs in B2 or 3… thought I was taking 4x longer than everyone else and really defeated. Just make sure you are learning those calcs and understanding the concepts of CofGS, CM, and all that awful managerial accounting. B1 is definitely important, COSO, the ugly formulas, Econ, then IT. I didn't spend a lot of time on practicing memo writing – MCQs til you pass out.

I am studying BEC with Becker as well. This is my second attempt. I am trying not to focus on the difficulty of the material and the time that is required to get through the question (seriously some of them have an insane amount of calculation work). But rather, I am trying to get exposure to the chapters and comprehend what I can this first time through. I will them go back through the material again.

It is a lot of information to comprehend. I find that with all the sections that your second time through the material really solidifies the material.

So my point, try not to stress out that you don't get it the first time through. It is more important to stay on point with time so you can get back to the material a second time (or even third if your lucky).

Almost always from my phone... please excuse my typos!

First 3 chapters are really time consuming, took me 3 weeks to finish the 3 chapters on and off. You can finish the last 3 chapters for 3 full days(I mean 12 hours per day) which I did. I believe that if you UNDERSTAND it, you'll REMEMBER it. There are also mnemonics that becker provide to help you remember. Minimize memorizing and try to understand it, remember the last 3 chapters are more theoretical, more definitions, especially IT so try to save some for later. Trust me when you reach chapter 4 until chapter 6, you'll love the first 3 chapters than the last 3. The first 3 chapters make sense to me but the last 3 was TMI (too much information).

FYI, just took BEC 4 days ago, wasted too much time during holiday season, I should have used it more on studying. Didn't prepare enough for the exam but still hoping to get a passing score.

    BEC is too broad.

@Stgeorge I hope too. No I didn't use anything else. But if you have time you might want to use Ninja. I would use Ninja if I had the time.
