You should allocate your study time as follow:

    80% TAX

    20% Business Law

    FAR: PASSED

    AUD: PASSED

    REG: PASSED

    BEC: PASSED

    CPA Licensed

Most of the limits are unimportant. You just need to know the rules especially how to do the calculations.

    Florida CPA!
    Took final exam 2/25/15.
    Sent in Application 3/12/15.
    Issued License 3/20/15.
Used CPA Excel solely for all exams.

When I studied individual taxation I actually printed out 1040 with schedules and made sure that I know what line corresponds to the material in the Whiley book I was going over at the time…. This helped me to connect the theory in the book with the actual tax preparation as I did not have any actual tax working experience. I had to take REG twice (first time failed with a 49!!!) because first time I studied only Business Law and did not pay attention to taxation. This was my fatal mistake which I corrected three months later. Good luck!

    FAR - 89
    AUD - 84
    BEC - 84
    REG - 49, 86
    ETHICS - 96........ DONE!!!

I printed out tax forms and reviewed them as well. Very helpful for getting the flow of the forms and visualizing what goes where.

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)

I was going to ask how to study the SIMS section of REG…and the best solution seems to be to print out the tax forms and fill them out. I to have no tax experience so if a tax form pops up as a sim it's going to look very intimidating.

    1. Are all the reg SIMS tax related?

    2. Which actual forms #s do you recommend I print out and practice?

I think it's possible for a REG SIM to be about business law, but from what I've gathered by talking to others, it's very very rare.

    FAR: May 1st, 2014 - 91
    AUD: May 29th, 2014 - 97!
    BEC: July 16th, 2014 - 91
    REG: August 29th, 2014 - 88

I will add onto Ajay's question as MCQ's don't bother me but the reaction on various threads in this forum to the REG sims leave you asking… “How do I study for the sims if the Becker and other study program sims are not adequate and the multitude of WTF's from those who have just taken the exam keep piling up?”

There has been little to no feedback on how to study for these sims. Just general dismay about “what just happened to me.”

Just looking to be prepared to succeed and not be a casualty of the REG “shock and awe” conundrum.

Thoughts and suggestions from REG vets are welcome.

My Wiley book says something like this in the tax section intro: “because the datadase supplied on REG is the tax code (IRC) and the Statements on Standards for Tax Services (TS), the simulations are tax related.”

    I printed and reviewed these:

    1040

    Schedule A (itemized)

    Schedule B (int/div)

    1065

    1120

    1120S

    1041

    K-1

    6251 & 4626 (AMT)

    I think that's it.

I practiced all of the sims in WTB. Even though some of them are frustrating, it still seemed worth it just to get an idea of the types of things they might ask, so that when you are reviewing your materials, other sim possiblities can jump out at you. (I actually loved my sims on REG and credit passing to really good sim performance.)

@Kimboroni… thanks for the insight… the Becker sims seemed very easy except for one which led to some panic given the feedback on the forum. So I started to do exactly what you have suggested in addition to purchasing the Ninja REG package as there are another 69 sims included there (I have not started the Ninja sims so I hope they are a challenge). Probably over preparing but I don't have time to condition… Need to pass all of these first-time through before year-end and there is not much time left.

as with the rest of the exam, the best part to study is by doing MCQs

    BEC - âś”
    REG - âś”
    AUD - âś”
    FAR - 11/29/14

CPAExcel, Ninja MCQs, and a sh*t ton of coffee
