Husband has asked me not to check my score

    Hi everyone, here’s my situation:

My husband and I leave for vacation next Thursday, the 11th and will be gone for 8 days. As you all know score release is on the 9th. Understandably the husband also needs a break from the CPA exam and wants us to have a carefree, relaxing vacation. As such, he has begged me to not check my AUD score.

If I don’t pass I will clearly (and understandably) spend a lot of the vacation worried about it. Note, I am a Colorado candidate and need to get in under the rule change effective July 1st. If I don’t I will have to go back to school.

He has been awesome enough to let me talk him into me bringing flash cards for formulas on the BEC exam (my last section) but has asked me to not check my score…I even pinky swore him!

You guys, this is going to be terrible. Thoughts on how I can pretend like the score release didn’t occur? Have any of you had to promise someone something like this to someone (because you love them and they have a right to have emotions about the exam too)?

Check the score. A pinky swear isn't a real swear.

If you failed, don't worry sweat it. It's only a score.

Personally I wouldn't be able to enjoy a vacation with something like that hanging over my head. Have you ever failed a CPA exam before and have a meltdown?

I would check it on the 9th and if you fail, spend the next 2 days to cry over it, and then use the vacation to cheer up. If you passed, then you can use the vacation to celebrate.

If you personally feel that you can't get it out of your head, I say look at it. Vacation's supposed to be about clearing out your head so don't waste it by not checking your score.

why would you pinky swear THAT? lol. This is where you put on the charm, tell him that you know you promised but its not realistic and SWEAR that you will enjoy your vacation either way. Promise him something a little “special” (wink, wink) for understanding that you HAVE to look.

Guys have no memory when they're promised something “special” anyway…..

I would talk to him about it again and make him understand that the wait is just as nerve racking as the rest of the exam. It would have been better if you had promised not to let your outcome affect your attitude on your vacation. I hate to sound cruel, but you've knocked out two and taken a third in the last 4 months so you shouldn't let a fail (IF you got a fail) ruin your vacation. You've shown that you can pass this test by passing the two with the most material first. You haven't been at this long enough to start worrying about losing credits. You will be so much more fun on vacation if you find out you passed than you will be not knowing. You need to just talk to him again and lay it all out because I doubt you're going to be any fun worrying about whether or not you passed/failed for 10 days. If you find out on the 9th that you failed you will have 2 days to mourn, cry, freak out, etc before your vacation. Promise him that you will get it out of your system on those two days and the rest of your vacation will be spent in bliss with a few BEC flashcards thrown in so you don't feel like you are completely off track with your studying. You have PLENTY of time to worry about one fail later.

CPA Exam - Finally DONE (November 2014)
    BEC (08/10/13) 80
    AUD (08/24/13) 65 (11/13/13) 85
    FAR (04/12/14) 81
    REG (07/19/14) 69 (11/29/14) 87!!

He's asking way too much of you. That's just cruel.

I'm in a similar situation brooks303. I find out my REG score on the 9th and leave on the 13th to go on a 5 day cruise with my girlfriend. I don't think not checking your score is really an option. If you don't check your score on the 9th it's going to eat you alive while you're on vacation.

I'm pretty concerned with not passing REG, but I have already decided that I'm not going to let my score effect my vacation. I've been working incredibly hard over the last year and a half and I deserve a chance to take a step back and breath a little bit, and I think that you do too. You owe it to yourself and you owe it to your husband to take a step back and enjoy your self for a little while. I know that this is all much easier said than done, but as it stands right now, there is nothing that you can do to change or improve the score that you are going to receive on the 9th. It is completely out of your hands and worrying about it isn't going to change anything. Do your best to enjoy yourself because I'm sure you and your husband both deserve it.

Using CPAExcel + Wiley Test Bank

    FAR - 76 8/5/2014
    AUD - 84 10/11/2014
    REG - 83 01/02/2015 failed once on 11/26/15 w/ a 72
    BEC - 79 05/30/15

I too am a Colorado candidate trying to get to that deadline. I'm not as far along as you though.

I'd say check it if you pass know that BEC is all you got left and you'd have 2 shots to pass it.

If you fail I'd seriously contemplate moving BEC into January and AUD into February or Vice Versa and give yourself 2 shots again at passing both.

I'd rather know and get over it than not know and think too much about what I'm going to do.

Another suggestion for you as I've kind of prepped myself into knowing I'm going to have to go back to school if I don't pass AUD. You can still pass the entire exam after July 1st and get every other aspect checked off like the ethics exam, experience, but then know all you have to do is go back and get a few credits in any form you like as long as you have the Business and Accounting credits you need. I realized when I put it that way to myself that it actually wouldn't be the end of the world if I didn't make the deadline, but I'm sure going to try.

I love you guys so much!

I really think I may just show him this thread. It's some pretty solid evidence for my side. And I am with you all, it's going to be worse if I don't check it and I'll probably just find a computer and check it in Mexico anyway. I love the idea of having two days to process the score regardless of what the score is.

    Thank you all so much!!

Good luck and congrats on being halfway there at this point. I was telling myself if I can get 2 passed by end of the year and have Reg and Far with 2 shots to pass them before the deadline I was in okay shape. Right now I have my fingers crossed I got it. Otherwise January/February/March/April/May are going to be rough months for me. They'll be rough regardless, but one less exam would ease the pain a bit.

from what I've read and you might want to double check univega, CO candidates really don't have april and may to test to beat the deadline. The license has to be issued by June 30 and theyre expecting a huge volume of candidates to apply so if you send your app in May theres a very real chance it won't be processed in 6 weeks or less.,…..

You guys! He read the thread and said if I take the advice of @Akvod and @Mla1169, then I can check. I feel like the weight of the world has been lifted. Couldn't have done it without you.

@mla that is correct, I called though and they said the average turnaround right now is 3-4 weeks. So that is why I'm guessing it is possible.

Consider whether your husband knows your better than all of us here (duh) and maybe better than you know yourself and has made this request for you rather than him. Yeah, he might want a break from the exam, but maybe he knows you well enough to know that you wouldn't be able to enjoy vacation if you fail. That all of course depends on our relationship with your husband. If it was my boyfriend who made that request, I'd know that he made it with my best interests at heart and because he thought I'd be better off not knowing, so I would weigh it more heavily due to that. Sometimes the husband knows something that you yourself don't know. 😛
