    Hello,

    I’m going to start working as auditor in PWC in less than a month. I didn’t take any auditing classes at school. I’m very nervous. I heard there is a training but I’m not sure if its enough to be ready to start working as auditor in PWC. What do you advice me? Is it going to be fine or I should to study auditing section for the CPA exam now before i start working? But I read that If I work as auditor I will learn most of these information from work anyway. So I’m thinking to study REG and pass it, and after I work for couple of months I can start on the auditing and its going to be easier since I am working in this field.

    What do you guys thinking about that?

    I actually didn't learn all that much from my auditing class in college. I pretty much learned most of it on the job, but it wouldn't hurt to read up on auditing a bit. You should be fine as long as your willing to work hard.

    I guess NYS is odd in that we have to take an auditing class or we can't sit for the exam at all!

    I would agree with @Austin_109 that you should at least consider reading up on auditing in general, and the transaction cycles, etc as it applies to whichever industry/area you'll be working in. I would not rely too heavily on your work experience as a way to pass the auditing exam though, as you're tested on what the book says not necessarily what you do at your firm. Also bear in mind that busy season will come upon you quicker than expected – so keep that in mind for scheduling purposes!

    @Austin_109 is correct. Whether you're going into Risk Assurance or some other type of Audit, it really doesn't matter that much what you did in school. The concepts matter a lot when you're interviewing as an experienced hire, like I've done several times. I remember being asked about ITGCs, and I recently was asked very tough questions regarding the internal controls of a company, audit procedures…etc. Thank goodness I answered and got the offer but you can rest assured that PWc will train you on what to do, and you'll pick it up so quickly that you'll end up bored :). Relax!

    See Austin_109…I just took an auditing class to meet my last course requirement. It is worth as much as you put into it…I feel on the job experience is invaluable and agree the key point you hit in interviews speak volumes regardless of what courses have been taken.

    @CPA Student

    Don't worry about it you'll be fine. If you're really worried about it, just look at the work done in the binder from last year for the sections you'll be handling on the audit just to get a feeling of the procedures you'll be performing and how the workpaper looks/is setup so you know what to expect in the field.

    I took 2 auditing classes in college…neither one really prepared me for the real world. Both of my classes were more like CPA prep (learning auditing standards, audit opinions, etc.) versus how to actually audit. Just remember everyone else starting with you is in the same boat. You'll be fine 🙂
