I mean when Tim explains … he just Highlights whatever you have to read and understand …

Peter … some in red … a couple of words in a paragraph ! he talks about so many things in the page but barely puts a couple of words in red…

I am currently studying business law – Any Idea what we should focus on when he is teaching ?

Peter explains the concept way better than than gearty. Make sure you listen carefully and pause to understand exactly what he's saying. He doesnt highlight anything so figure out on your own what you would want to come back and read when doing final review and make your own highlights. He talks fast so follow pause and understand maneuver but he really adds value to the material, compared to gearty who simply reads whats already there on the book. Gearty's lectures were always boring and almost never helpful (with the exception of Auditing).

Thanks for the tip CPAlikeaBoss – yes he does have great examples and explains stuff … but i end up with nothing highlighted … I'll just watch again and highlight 🙂 have a wonderful day 🙂

What's the point of highlighting? Peter does a really nice job of helping you understand the material, whereas Tim does a really nice job of making you highlight. What do you prefer? lol.

I agree that you should understand everything that Peter says in the video. If you understand the concept, you don't really have to memorize much.

I watched Gearty while I watched TV just so I could fill in the various mnemonics in the bubbles.

I watched olinto like I watched a college lecture. I used the book the same as a professor's powerpoint slides. I added examples and clarifications in the margins.

I wouldn't get so hung up on what to highlight or not highlight, you should know it all equally. Only the ancillary material is safe to “skip”, but even then you should read it through enough to be familiar with some key points.

i never highlited anything….i just listined to the lectures and did hw questions. i think olinto is terrible i hate when he says “oh the next 40 pages you can do on your own” why did i just pay this guy all this money? i think yaeger was better about that.

I'm studying for FAR right now and I have a difference in opinion. I actually like Gearty better than Olinto. Olinto goes way too fast so I can't keep up with what he's saying and making my own highlights at the same time. Sure, Gearty says “again” 10 times in one sentence but I can follow him and I understand the material better. Good luck studying!

olinto's lectures are more fun and can keep you more focused on getting through the material, but i like gearty's straight forwardness. he kinda plows through the material with all the bs aside which is more what i like. olinto is more of a goofball but balanced with explaining the material very well, but his goofiness does distract me at times.

@aalkukhun I have had the same confusion with Olinto as well. I personally am a big fan of highlighting things so when I go back and read and skim through the chapter, I only read over the highlighted portion because that is the most important sections. So I like Tim better in that sense because he makes sure you have everything highlighted. Peter really does bug me. Sure, he is more entertaining and does not have “again” spass attacks, but what I do for him is that when Peter says something it is usually right there in the book so follow the book and while he doesn't tell you to highlight something just go ahead and do it. Then when he uses his red pen, go ahead and underscore the highlighted section. Therefore you have all your bases covered and you are not so confused when you go back and review and have nothing highlighted! At least this makes me feel better and a little more productive. Especially when I go and use the book to answer some passmaster questions in the software. I hope this helps!

I actually prefer Gearty over Olinto. Olinto went too fast over Blaw and I didnt know where he was pointing out in book after awhile!
