I just don't get AUD

    I’m using the Wiley book to study and even after reading the main stuff and the authoritative literature I still barley manage to 50% on the MCQs. Even my second guess are wrong most of the time. I’m also using Ninja audio, notes, and flashcards. It feels like Most of these questions aren’t even in the text. What’s weird is I took it once already and got 50 and all I did was read through the text and did maybe 100-200 MCQs (poorly at that).

    Any tips to stay motivated? Im scheduled to take it Dec. 4.

    BEC-51,71,70,77
    AUD-50,62,68 (retake july)
    REG-55
    FAR-15(didnt study)

    You have a long time between now and Dec 4, so don't let it start to scare you yet!

    That being said, though, Auditing is a confusing topic. It's something that has to “click”, and until it does, nothing makes sense. From what I've heard others say on here, I think that Wiley does a better job with Auditing than many of the other review materials…but Auditing still sucks, and you might just need to hear it from another perspective. So here's my advice: look up the topics elsewhere. The first and easiest way to do this would be to go to the sites of other review materials and watch any sample lectures they have relating to Auditing. I did that with Roger's, and I know that watching his sample lecture helped me to cement a couple topics.

    The only other piece of advice I have is to read the question super-slow and think through the precise wording very carefully…and then check the answer as soon as you do the question, and if it's wrong, carefully read the right answer and try to explain to yourself why the right one is right. If you can't understand it from that, go back and re-read that portion of the text (not the whole chapter necessarily, but the paragraph/section). If it still doesn't make sense, Google it, try to find different wording and another perspective.

    Auditing is tricky. It's the least-straightforward test, in my opinion. Passing it is about having the tricks “click” to the point that you can almost predict the trickiness and account for it in your answers.

    I agree Dec 4th is a while away. I totally know where you are coming from audit is not straight forward, the questions are wordy and confusing, but don't let that get to you. I think Lilla's advise is great read the questions, make sure you see if your right or wrong right away and figure out why.

    I will also suggest reading NINJA a lot, that really helped me for audit, i felt as thought after about the 10th read through the material was finally clicking. Also on the SIMs in Audit make sure you use the AL, they really can help boost a grade!

    I have tendency to read a question and half way through go oh i know what they are asking and skip to the answers and then you know what i get it wrong. When i find my self doing this during the exam or during practice i take a deep breath and start the question again. Especially for audit patience and reading carefully is key!

    Good luck! You can do this!

    A - 61, 91!!
    B - 78!
    F - 76!!!
    R - 71, 73, 74, 69, 77!!!!

    Finally done!

    This is my 2nd attempt at the exam, I had two parts passed (failed many) and I stupidly quit, big mistake. Now I'm back and with a vengeance!

    Thanks for the tips. Good to know I'm not the only one who finds this stuff confusing. I guess I better just hang in there till I feel the click.

    Audit was the most fun out of all the books I read so far with Becker. The exam itself is the most tricky in terms of answering multiple choice because the slightest word choice affects the outcome of the answer. I think it just depends on the person, some people struggle with FAR, others with BEC, etc.

    REG = 58 (02-20-13), 75 (05-01-13)
    AUD = 67 (05-29-13), 79 (08-29-13)
    BEC = 83 (07-31-13)
    FAR = 72 (10-29-13), 69 (02-27-14), 73 (04-16-14), 81(08-13-14)

    Study Materials = Becker 2013 + Wiley Online Test Bank
    (75%) On my Way to a CPA (minus the experience requirement)!
