    Hello everybody:

First I want to thank Jeff for creating this community and you all for sharing your comments. I started my CPA exam journey back in April / 2010. Passed FAR first try in August / 2010. Then passed BEC and REG after few attempts. Then I took AUD and waiting for the result. At the meantime my FAR score expired and now studying for FAR again. If I don’t pass FAR on 11/26/12 my BEC score will expire too. I have a hard time studying and sit in the library and don;t study and go to news website or other places to avoid studying. I think I have lost my enthusiasm. I know compared to a lot of you candidates out there, I am too soft, and should not loose interest so easily. But any way I am in this situation now and I need some inspiration and encouraging words from you folks out there. Please share your inspiring comments with me.

    God bless you all,

    FAR PASSED
    BEC PASSED
    REG PASSED
    AUD PASSED

I really don't have any “nice words” for you, other than: DO NOT GIVE UP!!!! Stay at it and keep studying. You will see here a lot of people who are real heroes: Peanut, Jomari, Kricket, keeptrying… Stories that you can relate to and use as your confidence building medicine to finish this tiresome process.

I also like Minimorty (he is my Simon Cowell forum guru; it's a love/hate relationship) he may not necessarily be nicest one around but he is always right in the money.

Stay at it and you will be a CPA.

    Good luck with your journey.

I have a terrible attention span when it comes to studying so I do a ton of little things to keep myself interested.

    While watching lectures:

    Wine đŸ™‚

    fold laundry

    Sort objects

    Take notes

As long as I can keep my hands busy doing something I do not have to think about I can usually focus my mind on the lecture

I also have the option of listening to my lectures on my Ipod so I listen while I cook, clean, or get ready in the morning

I try to challenge myself to several 10 minute intervals of flashcards throughout the day or reading a certain number of pages in my notes.

My personal favorite is Commercial Multiple Guessing

Right now I am doing 10 question intervals on Wiley followed by a couple minutes of reading on the internet (which is why I am here right now.)

I am all over the place when it comes to studying but I have been able to deal with my crappy attention span and lack of motivation by mixing it up.

Good luck! You can do it!

Ask yourself one question and if you can't come up with an answer in a heartbeat then you need to think long and hard about why you are on this slow train ride through hell. Ask yourself “Why do I want this?” If the answer comes in a heartbeat then write the reason down on a bunch of post it notes and stick them all over your house. Put one on the TV remote. Put one on the keyboard and the mouse of your computer. When you start to get distracted by shiny things, you will be reminded why you are doing this in the first place and get back to studying. Good Luck!

I am in a very similar situation as you. I started this in May 2010 and passed FAR first try. I then failed BEC and Audit, then passed BEC and then failed Audit a few more times and then failed reg twice. I finally passed Audit and most recently reg and now am back to trying to get my FAR credit back. It is very hard to stay motivated but I have to keep in mind that this is it and we can get this done!

@Lovetopass I agree 1000% with Kricket! CLB has a great point also. When you are at the library studying or anywhere else for that matter, if you attention span is wanning, pick up your pen or pencil and write, something, anything to do with the part of the exam you are studying for.

I see that you still have passing scores. I printed my scores from the NASBA website and posted them at various places around my cubicle at work and on my refrigerator at home. I look at them several times a day and see those three credits and only one remaining. That keeps me motivated.

Another point, I would remove myself from access to the internet or anyway that you are able to access the news. I don't have wireless internet at my house. I moved my study area to a part of my house where I wouldn't be tempted to get on FB or read the news, etc..

You have already proved that you can pass. It's totally up to you to finish the race.

On a lighter note, I don't know if you are male or female, but personally I have pictures of Tim Tebow, Troy Aikman and Tony Stewart on my overhead bin at work:):)

    Good Luck!!

    Hello CLB:

Thank you for your comment, I read them and I hope I can use the ones that I can relate to. How did you transfer your lectures to you iPod? I am using BECKER. Please explain so I can do the same. What do you mean by “Commercial Multiple Guessing”? Please explain it. How far you are in your exam journey? I hope you do well and done with this challenging experience.

    God bless.

Hello Kricket: I always remind myself the reason I am going through this process. The reason I am frustrated now is because I have to retake FAR. I thought that since I have passed it before, I still remember it, but boy I was wrong and naive. I have to assume that it is the first time that I am taking it and study this material as if it is my first attempt. That makes it a bit hard for me. But I can see you had your BEC and FAR expired and still trying. That by itself inspires me. I again thank you for your comments and hope to hear from you again. Good luck to you too. By reading the postings of some candidates here I get inspired and get going.

    Hello bnrhilton:

I thank you for your comment, it seems our situation is very much like each other. This part of your comment makes a lot of sense to me “I have to keep in mind that this is it and we can get this done!”. For me this is the most challenging exam that I have ever taken. I hope you pass FAR in your next attempt. Please keep in touch. God bless.

I thought the same thing. I had passed it before so it shouldn't be hard to pass it again. Right? Makes sense. Yeah, that plan didn't work out so well. What I forgot to factor into the equation was that this test has changed so many times since I passed it the first time. Granted, the basics will always be the basics, but IFRS! I was no where near prepared for those. There's no one to blame but me. I didn't do what I needed to do. Now I'm mad, mostly at me! Sometimes I just have to get mad to get something done. I turn on my fight songs and I work problems or write notes. I watch lectures over and over again. I listen to the Ninja Audio all day long at work. I'm ready to get my life back, and if I have to fight for it, I will fight!

I've said before that I don't want to be anyone's inspiration. That's a pretty big responsibility to put on one person's shoulders. If you want inspiration, go look in a mirror. Don't look for inspiration, go be one! You've got this! I have faith in you. Good Luck!

    Hello candothis:

Thank you for your comments. I am a male and those pictures that you have indicated in your post does not do me any good. I need access to internet, because I study with BECKER and in order to ask questions from instructors I need to go to their website. I study in library and they do have Wifi. The idea of posting my passing scores around is a great idea. God bless and good luck in your studies. Take care. Please keep in touch.
