Last week I found out that I passed FAR which was my last and final part of the exam. All the hard work finally paid off! Now I am currently looking for an internship position under a CPA to get my hours to receive my license. I have a BS in Biology, and have ZERO accouting experience so this may be a little difficult. So far I’ve tried responding to various craig’s list ads in Los Angeles regarding any position in a CPA firm, and have gotten no responses. Luckily my dad and some of my collegues have CPA firm contacts, but I’m still waiting for a response from them. I was wondering if anyone can offer advice to go about finding a firm that would give me a chance?

hey, sorry but i just graduated and dont have much real world experience but craigslist is definitely a good place to start, i have received numerous call backs from firms on it but im in NY. What about campus recruiting? did your college have a person who has contacts? my college had a lady who had a lot of contacts.

    congrats on passing!

also, biology? thats a crazy jump to accounting let alone passing the CPA?

did you have to go back and get an accounting degree?

Luckily I didn't have to go back and get an accounting degree, but I did have to take some accounting and business classes at a community college so I could sit for the exam.

I'll definitely check out the college recruitment centers around my area when i get a chance. Thanks for the advice!

On the same track….bio and community college! I am finishing up intermediate and was going to start Becker, but I think I may be better off getting some work experience in the mix.

    1. Given what you know now, would you advise getting an internship/private a/r/ a/p position?

    2. Are you even considering going B4 or mid to smaller firms?

    Thanks and good luck.

You don't have to work for a CPA firm…although that gets you more experience faster. As long as you work under a licensed active CPA in California for 1 year, it's perfectly fine to work in private. One way to get your license issued and get some experience.

See if you can find a boutique firm that works with healthcare or biotech companies.
