I want an Audit job, but applied for Tax instead (long story). Any advice?

I have been told that you only apply for one job (tax, audit, etc.). You don’t want to apply for more than one job, because it shows indecision and lack of certainty. Well, I always wanted to apply for only audit, but at the time, the Tax positions were the only ones that were open and said full-time position, so I applied for them. Now, some audit positions have been posted, and I just joined Beta Alpha Psi, so I’ll be meeting a lot of the employers anyway, and I want to make sure I have the right information uploaded to the applicant database.

Any advice on this? Should I contact customer service for Deloitte and KPMG (the 2 companies I put tax, not audit, for) and request that they eliminate my old application, so that only my new application remains?

Personally, if Audit is what you want to do, I would focus on applying for the audit positions. Or if that doesn't work, apply for audit positions at other firms. It is actually a lot easier to move from one firm's audit practice to another than it is to move from Tax to Audit, even within the same firm.

Have you talked to their recruiters? How long has it been since you put in the applications for tax?

I'd just start a new application for audit. No harm done.

    Florida CPA!
    Took final exam 2/25/15.
    Sent in Application 3/12/15.
    Issued License 3/20/15.
Used CPA Excel solely for all exams.

Well, I would like to suggest some tips for audit jobs:

    1. Get the Work / Life Balance Right

    2. Admit the mistake when occurs

    3. Play to your strengths.

    4. Don't be too serious.
