What % would you estimate of new staff would vote dem and what percent would vote republican or would identify with conservative views? Of course talking politics is generally a really realy bad idea in the workplace, but since this is a message board, I’ll give my guesses

Since accounting is conservative? profession, New staff: 53% would identify as conservative or fiscally conservative liberal and maybe 51%would vote dem?

All the higher levels: 60% would vote republican?

Vs. most college students throughout USA in all majors as a collective would probably vote 65% democrat

I think right out of college students % lowers over time because they finally experience real-world responsibility and learn it's not the fantasy land their general studies professors tell them it should be.

But then again, it's politics. I don't care about my co-workers views. Opinions are opinions and people will never change theirs.

I used to be all about getting people to go out their and vote, but soon realized all politicians are pigs and don't care about me… so I went Libertarian and think for myself.

I think it is probably a little higher than that. My firm is probably 80% 20%. New hires may be a little lower I suppose but I got in to public accounting make small – mid sized businesses more profitable and help them save money on their taxes!

These days your vote on Amerrican Idol makes more of a difference than your vote for Congress. Congress is an absolute joke right now.

Accounting may make us conservative with money, but it tells us how to critically think. That's why accountants do so well on the LSAT. I find the trend is that accountants tend to lean more Libertarian/Independent, because they are too smart to buy into the social politics of the Republican party.

I know the source is a leftist website, but here they categorize some common occupations:

I think it's interesting. Most of my friends in healthcare are overwhelmingly democrat and in CPA firms I wouldn't ask but I would say among big4 entry level audit staff it's like 50/50?

What does it matter? An educated person who disagrees with me is a lot less scary than an uneducated person who disagrees with me.

I get the feeling that if this thread doesn't get closed, this will be the first of dozens and dozens of pages of people bickering…

Anyway, you can't really guess someone's political leanings if they never talk about it. It's quite common for people to “surprise” their co-workers when they finally open their mouths about their political views. There are plenty of people who “seem” liberal but hold surprisingly conservative views and people who “seem” conservative but hold surprisingly liberal views. And of course, there are also apolitical people who don't care either way, as well as disillusioned folks who hate both sides of the political spectrum (or all three, if you count libertarian).

And of course, there are individualists whose beliefs cannot be defined by a single word or party affiliation.

Evidence that people become more conservative as they get older please rather than older people were from a more conservative time please?

I would guess accountants are mostly conservative, entry level is more even

Please understand that when I started this thread, I wasn't trying to get any political opinions from any individual. This isn't to share any of our individual views, just to guess what the views tend to be of the majority of people in the profession/occupation.

Being in Tennessee, I would speculate most here are Republican. I for one, would lean Republican, but at the same time I'm not so far up the Republican's butt to sway. I vote for who I feel is the best, whether it be Ron Paul, or whoever.

Ever notice when this is brought up how many proud libertarians there are? Ever wonder where they all are come voting time? I'm a proud libertarian too, for what it's worth.

@tomq04 unfortunately, proud Libertarian as I may be, being intelligent in this country still makes me a minority 😉
