If you think you failed your exam, do you move on?

Just got out of Reg yesterday. My story is in another post. I completed everything but only got partial points for each sim mostlikely. Left the center and double checked some of my answers to find indeed i had made Sim mistakes. Anyway, I hope i pass but in the chance that I don’t (i’m guessing i’ll get a 74) do you move on to the next section or start preparing to retake?

I passed FAR already and BEC was going to be my next test. I have until Oct 2015 to finish all four. I’ve been studying 3 months then testing.

I’m just worried that I won’t retain enough REG if I move on and may have to start all over with it again.

I'd move on. Why waste weeks studying a topic you may never need to test again? I think you'll retain more than you think you will if (BIG “if”) you failed. Then, take BEC and tackle REG again after BEC. That's how I'd do it, anyway (and how I have done it – I started studying AUD figuring I'd have a FAR retake coming up and was pleasantly surprised at score release).

    FAR - 79 (11/27/13)
    AUD - 76 (2/1/14)
    REG - 77 (5/30/14)
    BEC - 88 (7/18/14)

    MN Ethics - 100% (3/9/14)

    AND DONE! 8/1/14

YES. I was convinced I failed FAR and didnt start studying for BEC and then passed with an 86 and was forced to study even harder because I couldnt push my test back, due to a two week work trip to Italy.

You may end up being surprised. I felt the same way after REG and ended up with a 78. I think you have to stay your course. If you have another exam scheduled, I would study for and pass the next one.

You wouldn't be able to take REG again until October anyway. That's a long time to try to retain this info.

If this were the end of August and it sounded like an epic fail, I'd say don't move on, keep REG fresh. But it's only early July and it sounds like a very possible pass to me, so move on. Maybe you can fit BEC in at the end of August. That's what I'm looking at doing right now. It doesn't have that much material, and no SIMs, just the writing only worth 15%.

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)

Ditto what everyone else is saying. Yes, move on! I was 50/50 on REG. I even went home and started studying after the exam cause I was so mad. I ended starting to study for BEC instead, which was good cause I ended up passing REG.

Most people feel like they've probably failed, but you never know for sure till you get that official score.

    Passed all sections.

No because I have bad anxiety and couldn't study at all without thinking of my score. If you CAN though, I would def recommend it. I think re-studying for the same part without knowing the score would make you half-ass it.

    AUD: 84
    REG: 84
    BEC: 79
    FAR: 83

This is the exact position I am in with regards to REG as well. Same testing experience as well. I know no one who felt comfortable with those simulations.

Anyhow, I'm studying for AUD now and then moving on to BEC before taking REG in October IF (big if) need be.

Yeah, the more I think about it the more I think I should just delete this topic. I will do BEC and if I fail come back to REG before finishing with AUD.

    Here's to REG sim curve!

Nah, don't delete the topic. There are bound to be others wondering the same thing, who knows what they may glean from the responses here?

Good luck on the REG score. You never know what may happen!

    FAR - 79 (11/27/13)
    AUD - 76 (2/1/14)
    REG - 77 (5/30/14)
    BEC - 88 (7/18/14)

    MN Ethics - 100% (3/9/14)

    AND DONE! 8/1/14

So if testlet two is based on how you score in testlet one and so on… And everything is scored by a computer why do we have to wait so long to get our score? I understand for the bec section for the written analysis but for the other sections…? The exam isn't curved so what's the hold up. Anybody know?

CPA8488 makes a good point and I would love to know the answer if anyone knows. As the exam is not curved and rather is based on a predetermined level of proficiency, why does it take so long to get our scores?

They probably check and double check them to make sure no errors in grading occur.

I thought there WAS a curve… am I just remembering a rumor I heard somewhere?

    FAR - 79 (11/27/13)
    AUD - 76 (2/1/14)
    REG - 77 (5/30/14)
    BEC - 88 (7/18/14)

    MN Ethics - 100% (3/9/14)

    AND DONE! 8/1/14

On the aicpa website of how the exam is graded it explicitly states the exam is not curved and testlet 3 is based on how you do on testlet 1-2. And everything is graded electronically. I wish it was curved!

Yah, I haven't researched it extensively since I don't feel the method of grading is really going to affect my performance. I either know what I'm doing or I don't. Or I fake it and get lucky. 😛

    FAR - 79 (11/27/13)
    AUD - 76 (2/1/14)
    REG - 77 (5/30/14)
    BEC - 88 (7/18/14)

    MN Ethics - 100% (3/9/14)
