    NINJA Question –

    Hi everyone,

I posted this elsewhere but this subforum is more active. Hopefully its not misplaced here! So I just ordered my Becker materials and applied to sit in my state. Going to get to studying as soon as my materials come in. I’m starting with FAR and REG (for various reasons that would just make this post wordy). Planning on taking FAR in early October, REG in late November before Thanksgiving. I’ll be a full time student in grad school, but not working (will be next semester, hence saving the “lighter” section for then), so I think that timeline is realistic. Anyway, I was thinking of complementing the Becker with NINJA notes. I have a sample of the FAR notes and was reading the N.I.N.J.A. framework and I’m a little confused.

The acronym basically says work through the videos first, then write notes (or just rewrite ninja notes), then MCQs in your program, re-re-writing (totally a real word) the notes, and finally “all comes together” which is basically the reviewing notes/videos/MCQs in weaker areas. I get all of this and how its outlined. The part I’m confused on comes next..

What I don’t get is then it goes on to give an outline about reading the notes (recommended 5 times in 4 weeks for a 6 week study plan), and then re-writing them the following week, leaving one week of review time. I’m having trouble understanding where this fits into the N.I.N.J.A. framework. Maybe I’m looking at it too precisely but it seems like a pretty solid game plan with pretty good guidance so I wanna make sure I’m following it, but I don’t see where this part fits in. Is it just concurrently with the N.I.N.J.A. framework and less structured or what?

Thanks for any clearance on this from Jeff or anyone who’s used NINJA notes with Becker or any other course! Also, any other guidance for my first CPA attempt is more than welcomed 😀

Hi! That reading guide is because he advices on reading the notes every day and so he breaks it down for how long it will take you to read the whole thing by number of pages. So yes, you should read the notes concurrently with your studying.

I follow the NINJA framework but have never followed that outline because I use the notes mainly for review. In the past, I have re-written them. It was very helpful for Audit, for example, since I watched zero lectures and just did Becker MCQs.

    Hope that helps!

    BEC: 73, 81
    AUD: 85
    FAR: 71, 77
    REG: 74, 75...finally DONE! 😀

*This is my 2nd attempt at the CPA exam. For all of you who have failed this exam many times, given up on it, or taken a break like me, remember that it is still possible to finish what you started...failure is the opportunity to begin again more intelligently 🙂
