Should I include “Dear X” etc. in the BEC writing tasks?

    Thanks

@krokofilen: I know I did. I formatted as a business memo. I didn't pass with a huge margin, so maybe take someone else's advice – but I did pass.

I did include a salutation, but can't remember if I used “Dear Mr. X,” or just a less-formal “Mr. X,” For a memo, it wouldn't have to be as formal as a letter, but I'd say “Dear” is probably the safer option. Definitely include a salutation, though.

In Becker it didn't say anything about dear X. When I did my Bec exam today I started the memo out by saying, ” this memo is regarding x and how it is compares to x”. Or whatever the subject that I was suppose to right about. Just copy paste from the given info.

It is already filled out for you and says who it's going to and the topic so I wouldn't write it again. If you have time (which I know u don't) listen to the first lecture in Becker that says written communication. I would say it's about half hour long. It explains it

I started it off with an intro that basically outlined the question/issue.

    I did.

You're supposed to tailor your message to it's intended audience. By that, they mean that you would address and communicate with employees, peers, and CEOs differently.

Yeah now that I've seen the actual exam format, I agree – it would be very odd to put a “Dear X” after the “To:” heading. You would typically not do so in reality, so not sure why you would be required to on the exam.

OK seems like it comes in different formats then.

    krokofilen-

I thought my last post may have been a no-no. I took it down.
