    Hey everyone,

I will be an audit intern at a small accounting firm. I’ve only had 2 months of accounting experience (mostly A/P work). Any tips or advice to succeed? This is my first major accounting experience.

Here’s what I gathered so far:

    – ask questions

    – become familiar with Pivot Tables and V-Look Ups.

I’m also thinking of skimming over my AUD notes from my CPA review course (it’s been almost a year since I looked at them)

Be prepared for a steep learning curve but don't get discouraged. Just ask questions.
    Socialize and be likable

As an intern there really is nothing expected of you. Just try your best and like the poster above, be likeable and don't get on anyone's bad side. In addition to V-lookups, make sure to learn the SUMIF, IF, and CONCATENATE functions. The LEFT or RIGHT function is helpful as well.

Thanks guys. Just slightly anxious because it's a very good possibility it will lead to a full-time position so I want to make sure they see me as a fit candidate for the long run.

Interns are like children – they should be seen and not heard. Or whatever the quote said.

Your goal should be to show up on time, be as likable as possible and try not to create more work for others.

And take this coming from someone who's worked with a lot of interns: Don't ever say any variation on the sentence “That's not the way they taught us to do it at <Insert name of your school>. You're supposed to…” Nobody likes a know-it-all who doesn't recognize their place in the pecking order. Everyone you will work with already has their degrees/certifications and more experience than you.
