IRS notice

I prepared joint tax return for my parents…claiming my siblings as dependents! My parents received their refund within a week, however my sister (she worked but was qualified to be a dependent – 23 in 2014, full-time student, etc) hasn’t received her refund. On the IRS website, it says the return is still being processed. Her income is fairly low, why is taking so long? I filed both returns at the same time, 1st week of April.

My parents received a notice from IRS saying they might be eligible for Earned Income Credit up to $6K…however my software didn’t pick up, and they haven’t been qualified for it in the past year. I’m looking into it.

My question is, is the IRS notice any way related to my sister’s refund? She wasn’t claimed depended in the prior year because it was more advantageous.

I’ve filed their return for at least couple years now and have never had any problems…any feedback is appreciated!!

The IRS may have recalculated your parents income tax return. Your sister is still a dependent on your parents return plus their income may generate earned credit and if she is a college student she may also qualify for American opportunity credit. There should be a phone number on the IRS notice just call them.
