Is it good to contact a firm again, or does that show desperation?

I had a final interview at a midsize (smaller local) on Friday. The interviewer literally said to me “we’ll try to get you an offer sometime next week”. Well, it’s mid-Wednesday, and I feel like I would have heard by now.

“I sent a thank you email within an hour after I left.”

definitely wait then. they said they would let you know this week…if you contact them now best case scenerio they say “we are still making the decision we will let you know this week” and you are in the same situation. worst case they get annoyed that you were not listening when they told you they would let you know by friday and decided that if you cant figure out that sometime next week means….sometime next week…and decide not to call you back in.

risk/reward you have nothing to gain and everything to lose.

not trying to be harsh because i know its a bitch waiting for a call back on an interview but its really important to stick to the timeline they established

Gotcha. What's sad is that I still have final rounds to go at 2 Big fours and 1 top five or six firm, so if I got an offer from one of them, I would probably end up taking it anyway. But, I've already received 3 rejections from midsizes, and I am 0 for 3 right now. If I get a rejection here, that makes me 0 for 4. Of course it's good to have this opportunity, but really I just want this offer to come through to build my confidence up a little bit, to reassure me that “yes, I can do this”. I'm starting to think the bigger firms are easier to crack, because they have more seats. Honestly, I probably didn't interview my best for the first 3 that rejected me, but this one I really thought was a slam dunk, so it would suck to get rejection number 4.

I personally would wait until Monday to call.

And Taxman89 covered all of the relevant points.

    take a deep breath.

you are doing great just to get that many initial interviews. even if you go 0-7 you have a ton of other options….deep breath, you'll be fine

    Taxman, what other options?

Btw I'm graduating this december, so I'll be out of school and jobless if I don't get picked up.

I went straight into industry after graduation into the compliance tax dept. was making 20% more than peers who went into big 4 and am still out earning them 3 years later. start looking at the big companies in your area and see who is hiring. imo exp at a fortune 200/300/400 company is almost as good career wise as a big 4 (not quite..exp we have a manager that has 10yrs industry exp and a manager that was hired from big 4 with 7 years big 4 exp…so you do lose a bit but not much). not only is the exp worth almost as much but you usually get paid better (esp at the start) and you work less hours (tho our busy seasons are just as busy)

You might contact a career counselor in the career center at your school. Ask for their advice on how soon to follow up.

IMO, being proactive is a good thing, but taxman made some good points too.

Your career center counselors deal with these issues all the time.

Seems like they would be a good resource for you.
