Sunshine what do you mean by spreadsheet? More context or detail would be helpful for us to answer your question.

After spending some time during my FAR studies trying to use it, my research has shown that the spreadsheet tool is the most useless application on the planet. Does that help?

@.Sunshine – I agree with @Savebandit, in the current form it is not very helpful. If you highlight a field of cells it doesn't give you the sum, which is a feature I use all the time. IIRC, there was no auto sum either, you have to type in the formula.

I read in the 2017 exposure draft for the new exam that they were considering integrating Excel. I think that would be a nice feature. And 10 years from now we could say to the young CPAs, “back in my day, we couldn't even use excel on the exam!”

@Sunshine/I wouldn't waste my time trying to use a spreadsheet tool on the exam. During practice, it made me so frustrated…it looks like a beta version of Excel, doomed for epic failure.

If you're talking the spreadsheet tool provided in the Simulations – I used it on a couple problems where I needed to do the same calculation for different scenarios/facts. It's pretty clunky and the entire time I wished it was excel and kept tying to drag and drop or other excel features – but you deal with it because it's the tool you were given.

I agree with everyone above – I tried to use it for a couple of FAR SIMs but it sucked – I feel like I wasted valuable time trying to figure out how to make common features work. I wouldn't bother with it until they replace it with Excel.

Thank you all for your responses that is really helpful, I was just afraid that it might be useful and I am ignoring it!

@jessica8926, I meant the spreadsheet that looks like an Excil sheet offered with the Sims, I tried to benefit from the formals that I can make to facilitate the calcs but its awful! its ain't an Excil sheet!

When you answer a SIMS, the cell for you to type in the answer actually can accept formulas too.

So when you need to put ans. 100 on the cell, you can put =30+70 there and you get the same result.

P.S. I haven't tried this in the my exam. I don't want to test their IT function 🙂

@marqzho, yea I know, but for its bad that you can't copy the sequence among cells like Excil. For example, you should type the formula 6 times instead of doing it 1 time and copy the sequence to all other cells for the same formula!
