Is the REG exam really 40% Business Law and 60% Tax Law?

With the REG exam still fresh in my mind from my 2/28 test date, I can honestly say that I do not believe that the 40%/60% ratio of BL/TL is correct. This test felt more like the ratio was 20%/80%. Now I did not mentally count each Bus Law and Tax Law question to verify the 40/60 ratio, but IMHO it was not 40/60.

And considering Tax Law is probably harder than Business Law, this definitely made an overall difficult experience taking the REG exam.

Hoping I find my grades out by 3/7 and pass it so I can file and forget this experience instead of dwelling about it.

    FAR 82
    BEC 82
    AUD 93
    REG 87

Just relax and think positively. The MC exams get harder if you do well on previous testlets. maybe you had more Tax questions than BL questions for that reason.

    Currently:
    CPA - Class of 2013
    ALMI (Associate, Life Management Institute)
CISA - Passed in 2011, Certified in 2014

    In Progress:
ASA (Associate of Society of Actuaries) - EXAM P (O), EXAM FM (O), EXAM MFE (X), EXAM MLC (X), EXAM C (X)

@ Kay, Trying to, but I think my undiagnosed OCD is kicking in. Just kidding on the OCD, but waiting for the grades can cause a certain degree of anxiety.

I had substantially more tax questions than business law. I thought the AICPA recently released questions ratio was pretty spot on.

    Audit: 91
    FAR: 87
    REG: 87
    BEC: 86

7 months, full-time employee, self-study with Becker (All), CPA excel (REG), Wiley textbook (FAR) and testbank (All)

For REG the split is 60/40 but its more like this

    60 – Tax

    20 – BL

20 – Ethics Accountants liability Circular 230 etc.

So really those two 20 combined make up 40% which is viewed as business Law.

I think most exams will have a spread where you get 60% that is tax and then a variation on how much BL vs how much Circular 230/ethics etc.

In my last exams I felt it was mostly theory on Tax like in depth Concepts.

    I am done!!
