Is there a time-limit between tests for candidates? - Page 2

I tried to find it on the Texas Board of Public Accountancy site, but no luck. I am pretty sure I sat for my last test at the very end of 2012. So, I’m wondering, is there a certain amount of time in which I must schedule and take my next test? It seems like a buddy of mine told me a long while back that you must test at least once before 2 years since your last test date. Can someone please help me out with what the official rule is on this?

    Thanks in advance!

Right — like I had said way up there ^^^^^, as per the AICPA, “remember that you have 18 months to pass all CPA Examination sections. The count-down to the 18 months begins when you pass your first section(s). Plan your testing schedule accordingly.”

i.e. – you have to pass all exams within 18 months.

Ah well.. back to FAR and hopefully finishing this window. Have a great day, all.

“@ Bill – no need to be rude. Manners, please. Taxgeek said (and I quote) – “each passing score is good for 18 months.” This isn't true. Each passing score is NOT good for 18 months. If I pass BEC in January and AUD in May, this would imply that each is good for 18 months from the date I passed it, which is not true.”

Mary, I was just responding to your post not way up there but a couple of rows up. This was the only part of your comment that I disagreed with. Each exam that you pass is good for 18 months. I guess people can research it for themselves. We can just agree to disagree. Maybe it's just semantics.. You have a great day as well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just for the sake of folks reading this who may be confused and not actively participating in the discussion. No desire to argue or debate, but don't want people getting incorrect information.

EVERY.SINGLE.SCORE. is good for 18 months. Every one. Period. (until all 4 have been passed in the 18 month rolling window, then depending on the state, they may never expire.)

CPA Exam Application Process Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Exam credit is good for a “rolling” 18 months. How does that work?

Answer: You may take sections individually and in any order, but are required to pass all four sections of the CPA Exam within a rolling 18-month period. Credit for any section passed shall be valid for 18 months from the actual date the examination sections were taken. Examination credit expires by section. You will lose credit for each section passed outside the 18-month period, and will have to retake those sections. Your score notice will contain any relevant expiration dates.

For example: Let’s say you passed AUD on your first try. After a couple months, you successfully complete BEC, and then pass FAR. If you were to sit for the REG section on the last day before your credit for AUD expires, and you fail REG, you now have to sit for and pass AUD and REG by the time your credit for BEC expires.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

If we really want to get technical here, the scores are good until the end of the 18th month following your test date.

For example, if you take your first exam on January 10, 2014 (I did), the score expires on July 31, 2105 (it does). Don't believe me? Check your score notification. You'll never see one that doesn't expire on the last day of the month.

Mary- I'm not under any stress. I just got a solid performance review and no angels lose their wings if I fail my next exam. The manner with which you called out Tax Geek didn't sit well with me, especially when he or she was correct.

@ Bill – on a lighter note, I am very jealous. No stress? I want your job! lol – I need to finish this exam while being a newly promoted CEO in a metro-area public accounting firm. (Even though it was back in May, I still consider it new. That way, my infrequent mistakes are somewhat forgiven. 😉 (jk, I kid, I kid.)

I need some of whatever you're having! (… or at least some extra hours to spend with my kiddos!)

Have a great finish to the week!

Bill, actually I believe the expiration date is state speciflc. I'm not convinced every single score expires on the last day of the month. In fact in MA (if memory serves) my scores had an expiration date that was mid month.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

    mla-

    That is entirely possible.

My ultimate advice to anyone here would be to always check with their state board(s) if they are unsure.

I'm jealous of the states that get until the end of the month before their scores expire – unfortunately mine isn't one of them. Otherwise I would totally take all of my exams on the first of the month! 😉

Yeah, how the 18 months is dealt with is state specific. My scores expire exactly 18 months from the day I took them– to the day (Oregon). Some states give you until the end of that month, and some states give you until the end of that testing window. Wouldn't that be nice?!

taxgeek was definitely correct, because if you lose your very first pass due to that score expiring, your new 18 month window is set by the next pass.

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)

Mary, you are absolutely wrong. Each passing score is good for 18 months.

    – I think we've established that. – I understand it as all sections being passed within 18 months and others understand it differently. Thanks.

Haha, this is funny! A few of you are all saying the same exact thing and you're all right, including Mary!

Yes, there is an 18-month life for each passed ‘section' of the exam. AND the whole exam must be passed within 18 months of the first passing score and if it's not, you have 18 months to pass the whole exam within 18 months of the next passing score and so on.

@Kimborini – I didn't know there were states that gave you until the end of the testing window! Any idea what those states are? I might just have to move…. 😉 j/k
