Is this do-able?

I have JUST started studying for FAR. The exam’s scheduled for 4/24. I am NOT working at the moment, but I have a few 1-1.5 CPE webinars (to maintain my CMA) in my schedule, in addition to doctor’s appointments here and there, weekly grocery shopping and lunches with Mom, etc. I may do some p/t temp work if and when I can get it, and may need to go to a few interviews to obtain same. Oh, yes, and I do have to get my tax return in by 4/15! With this minimalist schedule, does it sound possible to effectively use the little time between now and 4/24 to pass this thing?

You should be more than okay if you can schedule 4 hours per day to study.

It's possible to study for FAR in 7 weeks with a full time job and 2 kids With your schedule you could probably do it by April 1 but good to give yourself more time.

Boy I don't know… are you sure filing your tax return won't interfere too much with studying bonds and pensions?

If you currently don't have full-time work, then you have more than enough time to study for this exam. You have no excuse to not put in the time necessary to pass.

I really can't lie, I'm kind of offended by your post. Most of us would kill for that schedule while studying for FAR. If you're studying in between all that you have more than enough time. And really dude, how difficult are your taxes?…

You're NOT working and you are wondering if 54 days is enough time to study for FAR? I realize you have other time consuming affairs to attend to, like grocery shopping; however, if 54 days isn't enough (and you're NOT working full-time), then you'll never pass this exam.

54 days x 6 hours per day (which is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay easy if you're not working) gives you 324 hours of studying.

The OP has to be trolling…

CP Yay: Very doable. In fact that's what I did. I spent all of July and all of August studying for FAR with no major commitments at the time. I was putting in 6+ hours a day. It was rough but I took the exam on August 30 and passed it.

Good luck. Just stick to a strict study schedule and you can do it.

“The little time between now and 4/24…” ??? That's plenty of time.

Also, your taxes comment rubs me the wrong way. But maybe I'm just grumpy from doing other people's taxes all day (and studying for BEC).

I'm giving the benefit of the doubt that this person is very serious and very new to the entire experience. So to the OP, please don't be offended by those who are familiar with the process and find your question amusing, you'll be in their shoes soon enough! I'd go 120-180 hours total for FAR depending on your comfort level going into it. With your current schedule (the things you've got going on, most of us do on top of a full time job) you should be able to study at least 40 hours per week, likely even a bit more than that. Having the rare luxury of almost unlimited time to study someone should be able to do this in 3-5 weeks.

I had two busy seasons (Oct-Feb) at Big 4 and was working 80 hours minimum a week (7 days a week) and had one week off to study for FAR. Not saying that I passed (won't know until March 10) but I found time to get through almost all of the material. I would start studying sometimes at 11pm after working 14 hour days. Sounds like you have ample time. Oh and I didn't get to go to the grocery store for a few months and managed.

You guys make it sound as if passing FAR in 60 days while not working is a piece of cake. Lets say the OP studies 7 hrs per day and another candidate who is working full time can only study 3.5 hrs per day, which is half,so with you guys logic, the Op should become a CPA in 6 months. FAR 2 months Audit 1.5 months Reg 1.5 Months and BEC 1 month. So with this same logic, the full timer should be able to accomplish the same task in double the time, so about 1 year. In order to do that, he will have to take one part every 3 months (window), and he will also have to pass each part on his first try to finish in 12 months. I dont see many full timers here becoming CPAs in 12 months. What I see is lot of people hoping not to lose a credit, and a lot more taking this exam multiple times, so CP Yay, take FAR when you can score above 85, and know your JEs for every simulation.

First exam 10/26/10, last exam 10/19/11. Full time job, grad school, part time job and 2 kids. Plenty of people work full time and pass all 4 in 12 months or less. I am hardly the exception to the rule. Many people do it in 6 months while working full time. . And yes even with lunches, grocery shopping and a tax return, 6 months is more than realistic for someone working part time.
