Is Wiley a good/cost effective review solution?

    I am preparing to sit for the first wave of CPA examinations beginning with AUD in October of this year; I have been doing some comparions on review courses, and have found Wiely to be the most cost effective for me. I have used Wiley text books in the past in some of my MAcc courses and I am familiar with their format. I also just don’t have the money to spend on programs like Becker and my employer is not willing to supplement any of the cost.

    Have the books proven to be effective for anyone? Is the test bank worth the extra cost and effective in practicing the electronic format of the MCQs? Also, any ranges of $s that I should be looking at? (I have been searching Ebay and prices vary so much, I want to be sure I am not getting screwed!) Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Wiley worked for me, and I am a true believer in their books and the test bank. Of course, there were parts of the study that I found to be covered better than some, but overall I managed to pass everything fairly easily. No complaints.

    I would definitely supplement the books with the test bank. It may come in handy especially during last few days before your exam, when you want to go through as many questions as possible (this is exactly what I did).

    I am using the Wiley Books as my primary study resource. I haven't actually seen if my studies will pay off because I haven't taken my first exam yet. However I can comment on the books themselves.

    The books are huge and contain a lot of information. It is not a guided study (you are basically on your own for a study plan) and you need to have the motivation to keep going. The outlines contain a lot of detail, way more than I think the NINJA notes do and I have heard that they may actually over-prepare you because a lot of that information is not as frequently tested. I would also recommend that in addition to being good at self-study, you also did well in all your accounting courses (like As and Bs) and feel like you will remember a lot of what you have already been taught.

    Sometimes the amount of information can feel overwhelming. However, now that I am almost done with studying (I have spent about 90 hours on this AUD exam) I feel like I have a really good grasp of the information. I have been using CPAReviewforFree.com as a review source for MCs and I have consistently been getting 80-85% on their questions, most of which I have never heard before. So, I would say that the books can be worth it if you are willing to put the effort into it.

    The Wiley MC database may also be a good investment, and I know many on this forum use that intensely to review MC. However, for audit I think if you learn the concepts, which the books do teach, you will be able to answer more questions than if you just focus on details of questions.

    I use the Yaeger CPA Review, in which they use Wiley (text book is included in the cost of the course). I personally prefer to have some sort of lecture to watch in addition to using the text. I really like the Yaeger set up (much more so than Becker, which I used for my first two exams), but if finances won't allow you to pay for a review course, the Wiley books are extremely thourough (probably too much so). I would just try to look through the entire book at all of the modules ahead of time and make out a plan of attack as some of the Wiley review books (FAR, for example) are HUGE.

    Wiley for FAR alone can definitely help you to pass as long as you put enough efford and time in it! I dont know about REG coz the info in the book was too overwhelming 🙁

    FAR 5/14 88 PASSED!
    REG 7/13 74 :((((((((....! I cant believe it!!!! I studied so hard...
    REG retake 11/29 -> 89!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    BEC 10/11/12 -> 84!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    AUD 10/25/12 -> 95!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I'm DONE! OMG 8 months of hard work.

    I SHALL PASS. BECAUSE IT'S ME, SO EVERYTHING WILL BE OK!
