Job Application

    Hey all,

I applied for a job about a week and a half ago to a regional firm and haven’t heard anything. Everyone keeps telling me to be patient, but patience most definitely is NOT my strong suite. My question: At what point is it acceptable to inquire about the status of my application? A friend told me anytime after the one week mark, but I’m not sure how accounting firms work as far as hiring. The listing has been up for months now, but I’m not sure if they’re urgently looking, or just letting the applicant pool build for a while. Thoughts?

I would not wait more than 2 weeks. If you need to know, you need to know…

    BA Mathematics, UC Berkeley
Certificates in CPA and EA preparation, College of San Mateo
    CMA I 420, II 470
    FAR 91, AUD Feb 2015 (Gleim self-study)

Did you send your application/resume through linkedin/monster/online or directly to an email? If it was to an email, I might wait another couple days, but I agree, not more than 2 weeks. If it was through an online application service, I might follow up with a contact email address, if one is available – just to verify they received your resume. You could even use it as a way to express your interest in the firm.

I always thought this might be pushy, but I've recently heard from some partners involved in the hiring process in our firm that they do like to see when candidates show further interest in the firm, other than just submitting a resume (we are about 100 person firm with 2 locations, just for reference)

    FAR - 84.
    AUD - X,X,76.
    REG - X,X,75.
    BEC - X,X,74*, 81 AND IM DONE!!!!!!

*if i dont pass, i lose FAR.

Study materials: Becker videos/MCQ/Books, NINJA Blitz helped to finally pass AUD and REG.

First exam was in May 2013, seems like so long ago - FINALLY DONE!!!

@M.O.D. – Thankfully I'm employed full-time with a very stable job, so it's not really a matter of urgency. I just really don't have a lot of patience – it's something I'm working on. 🙂

@Just – I applied directly to the firm. I am thinking about letting it go one more day, and then checking in. I'm with you though – I don't want to feel pushy. But you are right about it possibly just showing interest, which I definitely have!

    Thanks for the input!
