I have been a CPA for a few years and work in public accounting in a mid size firm in Texas. All our offices are in desperate need of experienced associates. We have a few recruiters but there doesn’t appear to be any interest. Is the market really that good? I know people want out of public accounting after a while but, is there really a shortage of experienced CPAs? I mean, we need associates in every one of our offices….. any input?

    Yes. It's red hot.

My job search lasted a total of four days from application to offer. I had five interviews between two firms (the only two I applied to).

I accepted an offer with a Big 4 firm. They bumped me 15% (on top of the 15% raise I got the week before) and gave me $5,500 in signing bonuses.

I'm in a major US city (top five).

I hear it's even hotter in Texas (no pun intended).

If you feel like you're not getting the right amount of fiscal love, apply to another firm. They'll give it to you.

How about the candidate with only one year experience in industry, internship experience during a busy season and passed all parts of exams? Can you give me some advice on how to reach out to the firms? I want to start my career as a staff accountant in a small-mid size firm.

It really depends on the city but you know how I know the Texas job market is hot? I get linkedin spammed by recruiters in Texas and I live and am gangfully employed in WA. Also if your firm i hurting for experienced associates that badly then clearly they need to raise people's wages or improve work life balance ;). With better exit opportunities these days ppl aren't going to stick around in public as long as they did during the recession.

EDIT: Just saw they're looking for experienced.

Good luck with your search. Now, if only Birmingham could get that hot.
