I’m currently working at a small small CPA firm. I found out about a month ago I’m being let go after April 15th. There are many reasons for this, but the main reason is just that the resources aren’t there to provide for my position anymore, it’s become a cash flow/overhead issue.
I’ve sent my resume to literally almost every CPA firm in my area and surrounding areas. After all of that I’ve only secured one interview. I feel like it may be a lack of experience, although I’ve been working as a staff accountant for a year, because my firm is so small, I haven’t really been exposed to too much.
I’d really like to stay in public accounting, but I have thought about jumping ship and switching to industry. I’m not sure if that would be much better either, though, since I have no experience.
Any advice for my next steps? I’ve been trying not to freak out, but knowing your income will stop in three weeks with nothing lined up is quite…frightening. I’m just not sure where to go from here.
Thanks for any advice!
