Hi,
I’m new in here. I’m planning to take FAR in July, my first section to take for the CPA test. Right now I’m study mode using Gleim reviewer, feeding my brain with all information then will take tons of practice questions. I’m looking to get and provide tips or help to get through the test that’s why I joined the forum.
I’ve been through this road before 10 years ago(I’m a CPA in another country) so I know the sacrifices to make and how difficult it is to get there. But as others always say, it’s worth it! I know there are people here who might be taking the exam for the first time and some may have taken it in few tries (and still striving to get there). But whether it’s your first time or not, I would like you to consider these 3 basic principles that I followed 10 years ago.
Desire – Before taking the test, make sure you have the desire to become CPA. Remember when you were a kid and you really want something, you did everything you could to get that something. Well, it’s no difference to taking the CPA test. Ask yourself, do you really want to become a CPA? If it’s a definite yes, then go for it!
Believe – You should believe in your self that you can do this. Others may tell you, “I know you can do it” but it’s hard to convince yourself that you can really do it, unless believe in yourself. So every time time you look in the mirror, think of the CPA test, and say it to your self “I can do this!”.
Positive Attitude – Focus on what you want to happen, not on what you don’t want to happen. Concentrate your thought on how you will “pass” the test NOT on what-if you “fail” the test. If you think you will pass, you will, if you think you may fail, guess what, you will. What you think will happen!
And one last tip that one of my college professor wrote on the test paper during the final exam on my senior year. “Aim to top! If you fail to top, at least you pass!”.
I will be following the same principles I held on to 10 years ago to get through this battle again. I hope somehow, they will help you get through as well.
Good luck to all of us!
