July AUD review materials- use old or get new?

I have a couple sets of older review materials (2012-2013b) for audit but I’m hesitant to use them because I know changes have been made to the content on the 2014 exam. Should I use those materials and just use a supplemental system (aka Ninja) to make up the difference or would it be more beneficial to buy a new set of materials for audit? I don’t want to feel like I’m wasting time learning content that will no longer be on the exam but at the same time, I don’t want to shell out 100s of dollars. Any opinions about the tradeoff or how to go about studying the older material without getting bogged down by nonessential info?

    Thanks!

I have 2012 materials but waited until this year to take my exams. Mine are from Bisk. So far my books and software have been fine (for FAR and BEC), however the supplement for the AUD was about 400 hundred pages long, and from what I could tell a LOT had changed. I repurchased the book and will be reordering the software too. If you go back from where you purchased your old material, most companies will give you a discount on the new material.

Thanks, disco. I have Becker but both sets were given to me and the original purchasers have passed the exam so I don't think they can get any updates or anything as their codes have expired. I was thinking of getting Yaeger just for AUD because the REG and BEC sections I've used have seemed right on track with the exams so I assume FAR will be too thus AUD is the only one I'm really concerned about the outdated material. I'm kind of stumped about what to do and I have to decide soon so I can start studying.

Audit has major changes in 2013. You dont want to use outdated materials for Audit. I think Becker Part B of the audit book covers the new material. So if you have that then you are good.

Actually – any 2013 material will also include the extant (old) standards, which you don't want.

    AUD - 79
    BEC - 80
    FAR - 76
    REG - 92

Jeff, would I be ok using the 2013 info but supplementing with the updated Ninja Notes? If not, I'll need to get updated info as well.

I'll say this: I always tell people that using updated materials is the best policy, obviously BUT they can probably get by with older materials (BEC/FAR) if they supplement with newer stuff like NINJA.

I would not do this for AUD if I were personally studying today. The old stuff has the extant material mixed in and I just wouldn't run the risk of getting something mixed up.

If you add NINJA MCQ to what you have, I think you're fine.

Jeff, would NINJA 10 be enough as a standalone to prepare me for AUD?

Good question. Once the AUD book is out (August), it will definitely be. However, if you use NINJA MCQ like a course, I believe it can be used standalone with the other ninja products.

I like “doing” vs passively learning (staring at videos) so this would be preferable to me.

Thanks Jeff, I may still get it as the book I have really only explains the MCQs and some background items and this came back to bite me on FAR.

I started using the Ninja MCQ for REG last night and the learning features are AMAZING! Links for a “textbook exert” to every topic included in the question and explanations on a question by question basis. I am skipping the lectures and the book and will be relying solely on some outline notes and the MCQ. Doing, not watching, is the way I learn best. You rock Jeff!

And I might pick up the FAR book (depending on what comes back today for my scores) as well. 😉
