Just got out of REG, what a terrible exam!

Just took REG alongside 2 of my MAcc classmates and we all thought a lot of questions came out of no where and were not covered that well in Becker. Also, a lot of questions seemed like they had 2 correct answers. I also had the same question in two different testlets. While the testlets did not feel easy, they did not feel like they were getting any harder. I spent about 1 hr 20 mins on the 3 MCQ testlets and 1 hr 10 mins on the sims. The sims I felt much better about and maybe, just MAYBE my scores on the sims will bring me to that much sought after score of 75%.

I did so well on the homework MCQs while working through Becker and even did well on the final exams, but for some reason – this real REG exam was just awful!

I know!!! This exam is sooo crazy. The hard part is deciphering what everyone says about their experience. I felt the sims were hard for me. The mcq's were decent , only a few out there questions. I marked 6 in the first and second testlet and it came down to 2 choices. I did think my second was harder, but then again, maybe I was wrong! UGH. That is what I hate about the waiting, it is so hard to be objective.

From your score on FAR, I am guessing that you did better than you thought on the exam. It is a good thing that the sims were good for you, that seems to be the dealbreaker IMO.

I am hoping that we both get good news! Keep the faith.

    @yankee

thank you so much for your support. I felt like FAR was really easy and when I got out of the exam I just KNEW that I had passed. I did feel really really confident about all of the sims in REG except 1 which was not even covered in becker so hopefully that one will be thrown out. I just can't get over the fact that some of the MCQ that I missed were easy memorization questions but they were on very obscure topics in Becker that were not really emphasized that much.

hey cash–just curious, were you using becker 2011 or 2012? i've been using 2011 and the first time i took reg i felt exactly how you did….trying to decide if it would be worth it to switch to 2012 after i re-fail it on tuesday 😛

    REG (08/2011) - 73 (2/2012) - 72
    AUD (08/2011) - 73 (1/2012) - 86
    FAR (11/2011) - 79
    BEC (11/2011) - 79

I thought I had failed REG too, but I felt really good about my Sims and ended up with an 85. You seem smart and dedicated to this process cashmoney. You will pass because you deserve to pass.

    FAR - 79 (2x)
    AUD - 81 (expired), 77!
    REG - 74! omg (3x) 87!!!!!!! I'm done! OMG!
    BEC - 81 (4x)

Don't skip any “ancillary” material in 2011 and you should be okay. For 2012 they took everything out of ancillary and made it in to R8.

    I agree with the OP.

Here's what I don't understand…. REG has an ENORMOUS amount of material, it's very difficult and dry, and it's full of exceptions and exceptions to the exceptions that it can confuse the hell out of you. And on top of that, they make the exam A LOT harder than it really should be. They literally test you on such detailed topics and due to the amount of material we have to study, it can be close to impossible to know all of those details. But get this…. REG's pass rate is no different than the pass rates of the other sections. Heck, even BEC (which has a lot less material) is not as nitpciky and detailed. Look at last quarter's pass rate… BEC had 45% and REG had 44%. It's almost the same. Very odd!! I have a slight hunch that there are a lot of people out there that find tax and law to be a piece of cake.

I studied using Becker 2012. It's funny – one of the questions I was able to answer because we talked about it in one of my MBA classes – but it wasn't in my Becker materials at all. haha

    CPAMan,

If a lot of people find REG easy, then the pass rate should be a bit higher, 'cause more people performed up to their standard…

I believe many people used to perform well on REG and that's why they made it so detailed.

@75- To be honest, the pass rates of ALL the sections should be higher and that's what I'm getting at. BEC has a low pass rate and so does REG. When I took BEC last quarter, the questions were no where near as detailed as REG and the material was a lot less. So, I do not understand how the pass rate is the practically the same. REG is harder than BEC in every way, yet the pass rate does not show it.
