First time I took REG I thought I studied like a madman, and I got a 69. Now I really did study intensely for another 2 months, using Becker books and website/questions, and I’m not sure if I passed this time either. It really seems as if on my 2 REG exams the testers have cherry-picked the extremely tedious content in the last few paragraphs of each section in the books, and hammered away on these less-covered topics. At least for me less-covered, let’s face it I am not going to memorize the entire book, you pick out what you want to focus on, what you think is going to appear on the exam and drill on that. I read chapters 1-7 every word, and did all the questions and SIMS and skimmed ch 8. Did all the questions and SIMS for all chapters, multiple times. Wrote them ALL down, studied them on the train during day and basically memorized literally every single SIM that Becker had to offer. And the exam does not resemble what Becker is telling me is going to be on the test. Getting discouraged!! Anyone take REG lately??

Yeah I had the same experience basically. I didn't have a single question on 179 deductions for example. My third mcq also got a little weird because almost every question was a really long sentence for an answer.

The sims are impossible to study for. Can't get too much into them, but I had one on pensions that was so complex and confusing that I don't understand what they are even thinking.

Exactly, I had not one question on 179/1245/1250, I had barely any questions on Partnership contribution/basis, C-Corp contribution/basis, Partnership + S-Corp contribution/basis, Like Kind Exchanges, individual taxation, AMTI, M-1… seemed like it was mostly obscure details of stuff I did not focus on, in the 3 biz law chapters…. how can I take the tax part of the CPA exam and get predominantly questions on contracts??? way to prepare me Becker, very disappointed in Becker.

I had the same experience May 28th.. I am nervous for the scores to come out..

I spent so much time focusing on all of those same calculations and basis items, like-kind exchanges, and I hardly saw any of it.. I am not feeling confident.Crossing my fingers for us all!!

i think it means u passed when u see the WTF questions. i had the same experience. when i took the REG first time, i was super confident that i knew how to do every question on the first testlet but i think i bombed sims so i failed in the 70s so i studied again and did a retake. i understand the concepts better so thought I'm prepared. on the retake of the 1st testlet i flagged so many question and then i have question like wtf its not even covered in becker. even if u gave me additional 100 hours to study i can't get it right but i passed lol. i have same experience on BEC AND FAR that when i see random question not in becker review book i always pass

Yup, my REG exam was garbage as well. I got sims on two topics I wasn't even close to worried about and two research sims. Almost every MCQ I had could be narrowed down to two choices. I really put in work preparing for my last attempt, but man they picked me apart 🙁

THis is the first test I used all the time for it. I'm a fast test taker but the sims wouldn't allow it. One sim took maybe 5 minutes max though. I feel the two other sims (not research technically) but are pretty much research. You HAVE to use the IRC to find answers. They know that. It's like AUD. I went from 54 to passing and I feel a lot had to do with the second try me knowing more on how to use the AL. The MCQ wasn't horrible but I agree with everyone above about topics not tested that I spent a lot of time on reviewing. Fortunately I spent a lot of time on BLaw because on second try because last time I underestimated it.

Took REG last week. Used Becker as well. Not sure how I feel. Somewhere in between not completely bombing it to doing rather ok. I don't like this feeling. Had similar feeling to AUD and barely passed. We shall see. But I feel Becker prepared me adequately well, nothing too too far out of left field.

Deadlifts&Credits, thank you for your comments. I hated when people say that neither Becker nor Ninja prepared them well for Reg, and then they come here with an 84%.

This title couldn't be more perfect. I studied nonstop for REG – morning, day (breaks at work/lunch), night. I used Ninja MCQs, Ninja Notes, Audio, Wiley test bank…I had it down. I read posts about people getting questions they had never seen before and I couldn't understand how that could happen if they were well prepared. I passed AUD and BEC and was well prepared for both. Then I walked in for REG… the test was extremely odd. First testlet seemed fine and the second was harder, but I felt good about all of the questions which is why the 3rd testlet left me blindsided. So many questions seemed too easy. Beyond easy. Not enough words. Not complicated enough. I felt sick thinking my second testlet may not have gone as well as I thought, even though I felt confident on the questions. I hammered through the rest and got to the SIMS. WHAT!? 3 of the 6 were topics I hadn't seen since college. Literally. I left the exam thinking it must actually be possible to score in the 30s…that's how bad I felt. Score release is tonight. I'm glad to know others felt the test was weird, too.

@Linday smith. So you are basically saying they were not covered by Becker or Ninja? Do you see those topics on CSO released by AICPA?

I took REG back in January and I feel Becker prepared me well. My advice would to have a broad knowledge on all topics and not get bogged down in the small details such as leases and pensions.
