Just want to share a useful study method (well, for me at least)

    Greetings –

I started this method of studying today and I find it to be very useful. It’s simple and you cover a ton of ground with the amount of time you put in. In 4 hours, I read Becker’s Information Systems chapter almost 1 and a half times, did 85 Ninja MCQs, and 85 Becker MCQs. Tomorrow I will do the same thing with Economics. Let me know if it works for you too!

    You will need:

Becker textbook, Becker MCQs,Ninja MCQs, and this link to a stopwatch that beeps after every minute: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-22N-qs5PHE

    Instructions:

Before you start the timer, open your book to whatever chapter you want.

Next, load Becker MCQs to the same chapter. If you have two screens, use one for Becker MCQs and the other for Ninja MCQs.

Now load 100 Ninja MCQs for the same chapter.

    Now… start the timer.

Read one page from the book, or skim the major points until you hear the beep.

After the beep, do a ninja MCQ. If you can do it quickly, try to do two.

When you hear the beep again, switch to the Becker MCQ screen and do a problem, maybe even two.

Hear the beep again, go back to the book. Read the next page.

And repeat that cycle for 1 hour NONSTOP.

After the stopwatch is done. Go away, walk around for 10 or 15 minutes.

    Then do it again.

Are you taking any notes during this time?

I hope this method doesn't correlate with your scores. However, you do bring up an important point which is to find a habit and routine that gets you started to sit and study. I find it difficult to start, but once I do I can sit for 3-4 hours at a time and focus on the parts I need to study. In my opinion, you need the time to think through the material and make it stick.

I'll add that this method is very useful for conceptual chapters where there's no computational questions. It won't work for BEC Chapters 2 and 3 (what I'm studying for now). You need more time to do the problems.

It's also useful for just skimming the main points in the chapters. 1 page per minute. You do 2 full hours and that's 120 pages down.

@jennibfox – I'm not taking any notes. Just reading the text.

@Vern – this method doesn't correlate with the scores. It's brand new.

jonm857, HOW DID YOU COME ACROSS IT? Can you provide the link?

@Martin, I just came up with it on my own. I needed a way to keep my mind from drifting while studying, and the beep every minute does just that.

@jonm857 Thanks for sharing! I need something like this for studying. I noticed there are other interval timers on that same page in case 1 minute is too much for some…maybe 3 or 5 minutes will work better, in my case anyway.
