Last Second Panic

I took the day off from work (Friday) to prepare myself for my FAR exam tomorrow (Saturday) at noon. Well, I started the day off by reviewing problems I got wrong on Becker – that didn’t go so well because I answered them wrong again. Then I figured, “let me just take the Becker practice exam” (which I haven’t taken yet). Well, that resulted in a 73% in MCQ (did not take the SIMS). Based on my review afterwords, several ‘guesses’ were right. So that score might be slightly inflated 1-2%. So in a state of panic, just a few hours ago, I rescheduled for 2 weekends from now.

I’m really disappointed in myself. I thought I was ready, but after today, my confidence fell off the deep end.

So at this point – I have 2 full weekends to prepare and maybe an hour of productivity after work (late nights based on Q1 close).

Any advice? I’m a NINJA customer, so I have the notes/flashcards. I’m also have Becker self study software. There’s gotta be a way to attack this..

This is what works for me:

Every time I miss a question (or run into a question that I feel is very important for me to keep repeating), I copy and paste it into a word document table. I organize my table by the Becker Chapter (F1, F2, F3, etc). Then each night before I go to bed, I go over this table. When I did FAR, my table got pretty large, so I couldn't do the whole thing, but I could do sections. I would also do a section during my lunch break at work. Yes, it may seem like you are only memorizing the answer, but you are also becoming very familiar with the answer, the question, and the solution (my table consisted of 2 columns, one where I copied the question into it, and the other where I copied the entire solution into it). By being familiar with why an answer is wrong you are increasing your comprehension of the material. Also with it being in a word document, I could keyword search for other similar questions (something I really wish Becker had).

As I get closer to the test, I take out questions in my table that I am so familiar with that I don't ever get wrong. Typically my “table” turns out to be about 20 pages long. My attitude is this: I refuse to repeat a test. I'm a nazi to myself when it comes to study.

This worked in getting me through REG and through FAR, and tomorrow is AUD for me.

    REG - Nov 4, 2013: 88
    FAR - Feb 27, 2014: 86
    AUD - April 5, 2014: 91
    BEC - May 6, 2014: 83

A 73 on Becker's final exam is more like an 83% on the real one according to about 40 different individuals. There is also a thread about this I will revive it for you.

I also scored in the low 70's on my Becker practice exams. The real exam was alot easier than the Becker finals, I thought. I also felt demoralized until I read the thread CR7 revived for you. I took my exam and hoped I'd get the bump that everyone wrote about and sure enough…I got a 93.

I just took REG after scoring in the low 80's on the Becker finals and don't feel nearly as good about this one. I'm just hoping I pass because for REG, I thought the real thing was much harder than Becker.

    FAR - 93 (YAY!!!!)
    REG - 93 (Double YAY!)
    BEC - 87 (Whew!)
    AUD - 96 (DONE!!!!!)

REG was my first exam and I took the Becker finals about a week before the real test and I, too, felt pretty demoralized. I got low 70's on both of them, but I reviewed what I got wrong and took them again a couple of days before the test just so I could remember why I got them wrong before. I ended up with an 83 on the actual exam.

Most people I've encountered feel that the Becker finals are much harder than the real thing. Don't be frustrated… Just study what you got wrong and move on. You have plenty of time now to correct the areas you feel are weak.

    REG - 83
    BEC - 81
    AUD - 73, 92
    FAR - 90

    Done!

This has been a great help! Thanks everyone. I probably over-reacted, but better to be comfortable going into the exam.

I think at this point, I'm limited to reviewing my notes, the becker problems i got wrong, and then going through the other practice exam. Does anyone else have further suggestions on what to do or not do? Just 2 weeks away here with only weekends and maybe an hr or so after work each night.

I try to do as many progress tests as possible. This will give you a mix of the questions you got right and the ones you got wrong. Even though you got them right, it doesn't hurt to continually review the material (at least in my mind).

    REG - 83
    BEC - 81
    AUD - 73, 92
    FAR - 90
