Last section. So darn burnt out…

I am so tired of studying this garbage. Last section is REG. Take it the end of May. I just don’t have that drive I did when I started this “journey”. Studying is becoming a hellish experience. I would rather go to the dentist than study (100% srs.). Any tips for me? How do you combat burn out syndrome?

    Thanks in advance.

What about giving yourself some kind of reward when you are done? I've already started daydreaming about a nice vacation when I'm done… And just having my free time to do as I please without the guilt.

    FAR - 7/13 - 72, 11/13- 74, 2/14- 82!!! Best score ever (for me)!!!
BEC - 1/14 - 75!!! Perfect score! First Pass! YAY!!!
    AUD - 8/14 - 80!!!
    REG - 5/14 - 72, 10/14 - 66, 1/15 - 78 - DONE FOREVER!!!
I did 5 of the UNA and CPAExcel classes to earn units.

@Caesar- I am right there with you. And the funny thing is, we have taken our exams in the exam same order and the exact same timeframe. I also took FAR in Dec., AUD in Feb, and BEC in April. I can't wait to have a life again instead of having to be studying on Friday night.

    FAR 12/3/14, 87
    AUD 2/3/14, 90
    BEC 4/1/14, 88
    REG 5/27/14, 94

I'm thinking about taking a Japan trip in late May-early June. It'll be a reward for graduating and passing the CPA. I took AUD yesterday, and I'm hoping that's a wrap for the CPA exam. Right now, I'm trying to figure out what to do on a Friday night. I literally have no reason to study anything this weekend.

I already have a trip planned – I take my last test May 6 (BEC) and then am going to the Balkans and Italy for a couple of weeks. But the burn out right now is severe. Not even the trip has me motivated. I've been in school full time and working full time for nearly 8 years including the CPA testing…I'm so done.

My only motivation is saying, “Don't stop yet.”

    REG - Nov 4, 2013: 88
    FAR - Feb 27, 2014: 86
    AUD - April 5, 2014: 91
    BEC - May 6, 2014: 83

Think about everyone that has taken the exam over a span of years while juggling work and kids and deaths and diseases and I'm sure you'll find the strength to finish your 5 month journey. Read the blog from baxter about her struggle and taking the exam 28 times. Read some of the other blogs where people have overcome cancer while taking the exams. I'm not trying to belittle what you're feeling at all. Burn out is real and it doesn't matter what else you have going on, these exams are awful and life sucking. I really do think reading those blogs will help you get over your slump. Good luck! You're almost DONE!

@Ceasar1991 – last exam was by far the worst mentally for me. I seriously had thoughts of quitting if I didn't pass it the first time around. I was crying to my husband all the time and honestly didn't think I was ever going to pull off BEC. I was at such a mental breaking point that I was almost “thrown” out of the exam that day. (a hilarious story now but not so funny then) My point is hang in there. You can do it. It's such a great feeling to be done and you are almost there. 🙂

I hear you on the burnout! LOL We sacrifice so much to feel inadequate at a test designed to trick us. We say tests don't define us but the reality is they do if you want these 3 letters. You either are a CPA or your not. I also was was in school 8 years and working full time. Figured I would be as prepared as I am going to be getting Master's done first then taking CPA. I took Audit first to get some confidence and be comfortable with testing experience (Where I was going, what it was like). Studying FAR knocked that right out of me. I definitely have felt more burnt out with FAR because I definitely feel more exhausted from studying. The reality is I the more I study does not equate to better retention. There is difference between good studying and just spinning my wheels but with that said there is a balance between healthy breaks and making excuses/ delaying. I really think hard work pays off and I use the “5 years from now this won't matter” mantra. My biggest challenge has been adapting strategies, what works for one section may not work for another. I like regimens and routines and FAR the first time around has changed some norms. If I don't pass first time, I at least gained awareness of what to do get it right next time (better idea of how I retain information and time I need). I have found I need 1/3 more time than what Becker's says specific to FAR. I need to be able to walk away and come back and apply material vs immediately doing and pushing through. Good luck to everyone!! Me vs FAR on Monday.

    AUDIT: 88 2/12/14 (Lost Credit), 92 11/30/15
    FAR: 71 4/14,70 5/15, 70 8/15, 80 10/15 (FINALLY)
    REG:80 11/14
    BEC: 80 5/15

I was so burned out that I wanted to finish and tried to take BEC and REG in the same window last time. I got a 73 on REG which was my final exam!

Trust me, I know it sucks. It is very difficult for me to pick up the books right now!

@Ceasar1991 – If you are looking for motivation to study, then here is a suggestion for you. Get a piece of paper or even a post it note and write 74 in bold print with a black marker. Then get another piece of paper and write Your Name, CPA. Put them both in front of your study area or on your computer monitor.

I'm super burnt out too. Started the exams on Oct 3, 2012. Yes, 2012. Took my last one FAR in Feb and failed with a 74… so you can imagine how disgusted I am with this material. I literally have ZERO drive to study, but I have to. I'm planning a vacation to NZ once I am done. It's my favorite country to visit, so I am dying to plan it. Also, I just moved into a brand new apartment and crap is EVERYWHERE. I can't organize til I have taken it (in the next week) because I don't deserve to. So, there's a bunch of us who understand your position. My brain is so fried.

Also, I truly love going to the dentist for the nitrous 😉

I know exactly how you feel. I took a 4 month break after having a baby and I'm so exhausted. Trying to get sleep, fit in time to workout, spend time with the baby and my husband and study is a lot harder than I thought. I started studying 2 weeks ago and just finished the first chapter of BEC. I just want to be done and I'm so worried that this will be the test that'll trip me up.
